Half-Demon[edit]

Demons are creatures of unrestrained passion, and often take this passion out on creatures in ways that those creatures don't reciprocate - and possibly don't survive. However, sometimes, passion with a demon brings life rather than death - although it's questionable whether the offspring that comes from such a union would want to live. Not all demonspawn of this nature come from unwilling unions, however, as some truly depraved individuals invite lovemaking (if such a term applies to this) with a demon to produce an unholy child. These unfortunates are half-demons - neither their parent race, nor true demon, but a strange fusion of both.

Not all half-demons display all the traits of their demonic parent. Quite a large number are only slightly marked, and quite a few only manifest their demonic traits more thoroughly once they have aged a little and have been exposed to the raw power of the emotions that their demonic blood can grant them. Many resist these changes, attempting to undo the misfortune (or perhaps, the mistake) of their parent, but just as many give into them, and try and grow in their power, or perhaps even seek out their demonic parent in a bid to gain more power.

While practically all demons occasionally find themselves in need of a little companionship, this particular write-up of the half-demon focuses on six demons specifically, which are by far the most prolific in their reproductive acts with other species: armanites, balors, bar'lgura, ekolids, nalfeshnees, and succubi.

Making a Half-Demon[edit]

A half-demon gains many of the supernatural capabilities of their parent, combined with an array of spell-like abilities and significant improvements to their physical and mental capabilities.

Abilities: Charisma is an important ability score for this class, as many of its abilities depend on it. A high Dexterity and Constitution aren't amiss either.

Races: Any mortal race can become a half-demon. A mortal creature is any living creature that is not an elemental, fey or outsider.

Alignment: While creatures of any alignment can have the misfortune of being a half-fiend, quite a number of them share the chaotic and evil tendencies of their demonic parent.

Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the half-demon.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Half-demons are proficient with all simple weapons, and one martial weapon of their choice. They are proficient with light armour, but not shields.

Spellcasting or Bonus Feat: When a half-demon gains their first class level, they can choose to either advance spellcasting or not to. If they choose to advance spellcasting, gaining a level in half-demon counts as gaining a level in their previous class for the purposes of spells known and spells per day. If they had multiple classes capable of casting spells, they choose which one is advanced in this manner.

If they choose not to advance spellcasting, they gain a bonus feat at each level of half-demon. They must meet all the prerequisites for a feat to take it. Once this choice is made, it cannot be changed, and remains constant no matter how many levels of half-demon are taken. Note that if the half-demon does not know how to cast spells, they cannot choose any option but this one.

Abyssal Power (Su): The mighty power of the Abyss flows through a half-demon. If they have any spell-like abilities or spells, their caster level always equals their character level (or CR), and any DCs for these spells or spell-like abilities is worked out as if it were a supernatural ability (10 + 1/2 the half-demon's character level or CR + the appropriate ability score modifier).

Demonic Influence: A half-demon gains some abilities from their demonic parent. Choose one of the following demons, which now becomes the parent of the half-demon: armanite, balor, bar'lgura, ekolid, nalfeshnee or succubus. Once this choice is made, it cannot be changed. The ability this grants is as below:

Armanite: The half-demon receives the benefits of the Run feat. Additionally, they may charge triple their move distance instead of double as normal.

Balor: As a move action, the half-demon can create a flaming whip from out of thin air. This is considered identical to a whip, except that the half-demon is automatically proficient with it, it deals fire damage instead of nonlethal damage, and is considered a magical weapon for all purposes. If the half-demon drops, puts down or otherwise stops holding the whip, it vanishes in a puff of smoke.

Bar'lgura:

Ekolid:

Nalfeshnee:

Succubus:

Scion of the Abyss: A half-demon gains a close connection to the power of the Abyss. This has different effects depending on whether the half-demon is a spellcaster or not.

If the half-demon is not a spellcaster, they gain the following spell-like abilities at the designated character level (or CR), each useable once per day. If their character level or CR exceeds the minimum character level or CR of the spell-like ability by 2 or 3, then they may use that ability 3/day instead, and if it exceeds the minimum character level or CR of the spell-like ability by 4 or more, they may use it at-will. These abilities have Charisma-based DCs and a caster level equal to the half-demon's character level (or CR).

Spell-Like Abilities Gained By Half-Demon
Minimum Character Level Spell-Like Ability Gained Equivalent Spell Level
1 Erzebet's skull bomb 1st
3 Elush's eye-blasting explosion 2nd
5 Rapture of rupture 3rd
7 Turn to the Abyss 4th
9 Elush's epiphyseal erosion 5th
11 Elush's elemental extraction 6th
13 Torn from within 7th
15 Elush's explosive exsanguination 8th
17 Apocalypse from the sky 9th

If the half-demon is a spellcaster, they add all of the above spells to their class list, and learn them when they reach the marked character level (or CR). They cast them as they would normally cast spells from their class. If the half-demon had multiple spellcasting classes, apply this to all of them.
