Variant Wrappings of the Ages [Necromantic Creation] Prerequisites: Variant Body Assemblage or other ability to use Animate Dead, 11 ranks in Knowledge (Religion) or Profession (Mortician)Benefit: You can create special zombies with the animate dead spell called Mummies through an hour long ritual that requires special materials costing 25 gp per HD of the Mummy.

A Mummy is identical to a standard Zombie, except as follows:

  • Natural Armor is 8 points higher than that of a normal zombie
  • Damage Reduction is 10/- instead of 5/slashing
  • Rotting Curse (Su): A Mummy inflicts this magical disease when it hits with its natural weapons. It has no incubation period and inflicts 1d2 Constitution damage. A creature afflicted with the rotting curse does not heal naturally and any magical healing must succeed a DC 20 caster level check to succeed, or there is no effect on the afflicted character. Unlike normal diseases, the rotting curse continues until the victim reaches Constitution 0 (and dies) or is cured as described below.
To eliminate mummy rot, the curse must first be broken with break enchantment or remove curse (requiring a DC 10 + the Mummy's HD caster level check for either spell), after which a caster level check is no longer necessary to cast healing spells on the victim, and the rotting curse can be magically cured as any normal disease.
An afflicted creature who dies of the rotting curse shrivels away into sand and dust that blow away into nothing at the first wind.
  • Despair (Su): All mortals (creatures that are not dragons, elementals, fey, outsiders or undead) within Close range (determined by their HD) must make a Will save (DC 10 + 1/2 HD + Charisma modifier) or be rendered become confused for 1 round and shaken for as long as they are within range and 1d4 rounds after. A creature that fails its save by 5 or more is paralyzed for 1 round instead of being confused.. If the Despair of multiple mummies overlap, only the strongest of them takes effect, and if multiple mummies of the same power have overlapping Despair, those within them only need to save once to ignore both of them. This is considered both a mind-affecting and fear ability.
A Mummy with 8 or more HD renders creatures frightened.
A Mummy with 16 or more HD renders creatures panicked.
  • Vulnerability to Fire (Ex): Mummies take 50% more damage from fire.
  • A Mummy’s Strength increases by 6, its Dexterity decreases by 2, it has no Consitution or Intelligence score, and its Charisma increases by 2. This replaces the zombie's normal ability score adjustments.
  • Unholy Toughness (Ex): Mummies add their Charisma modifier x their HD to their hp.

In addition, you may designate any enclosed space that has not been touched by the sun in 7 days, and that undead you control have occupied for 24 or more hours as a a special type of Tomb known as a Crypt. The entire crypt benefits from a desecrate spell, and all undead inside it gain fast healing 1 and cannot be Turned or Rebuked. In all other ways, the area is not a Tomb. Special: You can create 'unwrapped' mummies as well, these do gain only half the natural armor and damage reduction. In exchange, they lose the Single Actions Only special quality.
