A draconic humanoid creature stands before you clad in glistening plate, their arms bristling with many small spines that glow with an inner fire, and their wings alight with flame granting them some manner of organic jetpack.

The Cult of the Wyrmtongue is a dragonblooded supremacy organization who believes in the exultation of all things dragon related, and in their zeal they have taken up the practice of worshiping the Dragons Ascended, supposed gods who, real or not, seem to bless their worshipers with mutations that transform them into living weapons. The pteron is one such weapon, one designed to rain destruction and judgment from above. Associated with the Ascended Dragon Daniik the Judge, pterons are considered to be somewhat equal to the concept of the Greek Furies and are spirits of vengeance. When set out to a task they chase down their target to the ends of the earth and ensure such a being shall never know rest or the gaze of the sky above again.

Their bodies produce strangely curled spines that glow with inner light. They may deploy these spines as rocket powered projectiles that explode on contact. In exchange for a proper breath weapon they have what can only be called an organic jetpack, wings whose primary source of lift is not flapping but a constant stream of hot plasma from vents along their bony exterior.

Pterons are created from the bodies of any dragonblooded species such as dragonborn, half-dragons, and rarely even lizardfolk who has draconic blood. Though it can cover multiple races, each of these variants have the same basic pteron abilities and statistics. Pterons speak Draconic, and any previous languages they spoke before their transformation.

Combat[edit]

Pterons rarely touch the ground, deploying their explosive spines down on hapless opponents and aiming for those which pose any sort of threat to their aerial superiority. If in a bind, they dash away and use distance to their advantage.

Blessings of the Wyrmtongue (Su): The blessings of draconic forces empower a normal dragonblooded creature into one of their followers. As a follower of the wyrmtongue, they gain unique BAB, saving throws, skills per level, and class skills for what are effectively racial hit dice. In addition to the unique abilities of the wyrmtongue herald, they gain a +2 enhancement bonus to any armor, shields, or weapons they use and a +3 resistance bonus to all saves. The blessings of the wyrmtongue also protect their soul after death, traveling to a unknown but specific plane in the afterlife and immune to being affected by abilities which trap or imprison the soul.

Extraordinary Health (Ex): The pteron wyrmtongue always receives maximum hit points per HD.

Rocket Dash (Ex): The pteron may use updraftSpC as an extraordinary action once every 1d4 rounds.

Rocket Spine (Ex) and (Su): Rocket spines are projectile weapons with a range increment of 80 ft, and launched as a standard action. They deal 2d6 piercing damage on a direct hit, and regardless if they hit or not they explode into a 10 ft radius fireball, with a Reflex save for half (DC 20). Those hit with a successful attack roll receive no saving throw. The saving throw is Charisma based with a +2 from Ability Focus.

If they spend at least 3 rounds in a stressful situation (such as combat) they can make a 60 ft cone of rocket spines that deal 2d6 fire damage/HD to all creatures Reflex for half as a full attack action. They may use this 1/day.
