Civilized Monster

An elegant monster for a more civilized age.

Class: Monster

Level: 1

Replaces: When taking this ACF, you lose your Unarmed Strike progression from Monstrous Body, the Monster Ability gained at first level, Penetrating Strike, and Improved Penetrating Strike

Benefit: Civilized Monsters are proficient in all simple and martial weapons. Furthermore, they get the following class features:

Casual Weapon Usage: When wielding a 1-handed or 2-handed melee weapon, the base damage dealt is equal to the base damage of the weapon, or the damage the Monster's Unarmed Strike would have dealt, whichever is better. Additionally, if a weapon's total enchantment bonus would be less than the passive enhancement bonus on the Monster's Unarmed Strike would have received, increase the Enhancement of the weapon until they are the same. (Ex: At level 11, a Monster's Enhancement bonus would be +3. If a Civilized Monster wields a +1 Flaming Weapon, it increases to +2 Flaming, because Flaming is worth +1, so +2+1 = +3)

Civilized Monsters are not considered to know Improved Unarmed Strike for purposes of feats and abilities. Any mention of using Unarmed Strike in a Monster's Abilities/Traits can be replaced with a 1-handed or 2-handed wielded melee weapon attack by a Civilized Monster. However, a Civilized Monster cannot take the Elemental Unarmed Strike ability, or the Devour, Dunk, or Rend Monster Traits.

Summon Weapon (Su): A Civilized Monster, as a standard action, can summon a 1-handed or 2-handed melee weapon to his hands of an Enhancement Bonus equivalent to the Monster Unarmed Strike enhancement bonus. This can be modified by abilities such as Enhanced Unarmed Strike or Arcane Unarmed Strike, but not Elemental Unarmed Strike. At 4th level, the weapon can be summoned as a Move action, and at 8th level, as a Swift action. A Civilized Monster can only have one summoned weapon out at any one time; if he summons a second one, the first weapon disappears.

Penetrating Strike (Ex): The Civilized Monster's Penetrating Strike abilities apply to Casual Weapon Usage, not the Monster's Unarmed Strike. At level 17, the bonus increases to 5, as normal.
