The uses of magic is a complex subject, some people need to study it intensely to even get the smallest of effects. While others simply possess magical power inherently, but are limited to their application. There are some extremely rare individuals who have the mind to study magic and the inherent powers within themselves, however pursuing both is an a distracting affairs and those who do will find themselves at a disadvantage against those who focused. Those who persist are able to become Archmagus, very rare even among arcane spellcasters, but of fearsome powers.

An Archmagus possess both inherent arcane abilities and have learned how to tap into the forced of magic through learned studies, and finally with their unique talents they combine these powers which make them truly versatile and dangerous.

The Archmagus is a remake of the Ultimate MagusCM, which is more viable at VH level of player and alongside some of the stronger spellcasting prestige class.

Becoming a Archmagus[edit]

Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the Archmagus.

Spellcasting: At each level, you gain new spells per day and an increase in caster level (and spells known, if applicable) as if you had also gained a level in a prepared arcane spellcasting class and a spontaneous spellcasting class to which you belonged before adding the prestige class level. You do not, however, gain any other benefit a character of those classes would have gained. If you had more than two arcane spellcasting class before becoming a Archmagus, you must decide to which classes to add each level for the purpose of determining spells per day, caster level, and spells known.

Arcane Power (Ex): At 1st level an Archmagus gain a +1 increase to her caster level when casting spells from the classes advanced by the Archmagus class. This increase by a further +1 at 5th level and 10th level.

Preparation Synthesis: At 2nd level, an Archmagus is capable of preparing any spell on her spell known list as if it was in her spell book. If a spell she wishes to prepare is not on her prepared arcane spell list she must use two spell slot of the correct or higher level to prepare it.

Fueled Metamagic (Ex): Once per round, whenever a 3rd level Archmagus apply a [Metamagic] feat to a spell she spontaneously cast, she may reduce the spell level adjustment of the metamagic feat by up to half her class level, doing so require her to expend a prepared spell slot whose level is equal or higher to the augmented spell's original level.

When she prepare her spells for the day, she may also do same when she prepare a spell modified by a [Metamagic] feat. However instead she sacrifice one of her spontaneous spell slot. She may may only use this ability once per spell prepared.

An Archmagus may use this ability a number of times per day equal to 2 + her Charisma modifier.

Bonus Feat: A 4th and 8th level an Archmagus gain a [Metamagic] feat she meet the prerequisites for as a bonus feat.

Learned Spell Research: At 6th level, an Archmagus gain an extra spell known of each level she is able to cast. This spell known is not selected as normal, instead when she prepare her spells each day she may assign one spell of the correct level in her spell book, even if it does not appear on her spontaneous arcane caster list, as the spell known for today.

Synthesis Casting (Ex): If a 7th level Archmagus cast a spontaneous spell and has at least one instance the same spell prepared with the same [Metamagic] feats applied at the same level, she does not expend a spell slot to cast the chosen spell. However there is a 50% chance that a single instance of the prepared spell is expended.

Dead Magic Casting (Ex): If an Archmagus of 9th level or higher attempt to cast in an antimagic field or a dead magic zone, she may use her own inner reserve of magic to successfully cast the spell instead of allowing it to fizzle. In order to cast a spell in such condition, she must spend an additional spell slot of the same level as the spell she attempted to cast. If the spell was prepared she mus expend a spontaneous spell slot and if the spell was spontaneous she must expend a prepared spell slot. If she does the spell is stripped of any metamagic effect, but is otherwise functional.

This process is extremely draining and the Archmagus, cannot recover the expended spell slot used as part of this ability for 1 week.

Harbinger of Magic (Su): At 10th level, the Archmagus has absorbed enough magical energy to be permanently transformed by it. As long as she has spell slots of 6th level or higher available to cast she is constantly under the effect of fly, haste and shield and her body is being magically sustained as if she was wearing an attuned Ring of Sustenance.
