The rust red crystal blade shimmers in the light. As you grasp the sword to pull it out of the corpse you feel a sharp sting in your hand and you grow weak and lightheaded. With an ominous glow the dull red grows bright crimson, slick, and wet.
Technically a cursed item by many an account, the +1 flamberge known as bloodbiter is a unique weapon with a taste for blood. It has a glassy dark red blade which becomes bright crimson with a distinct wet sheen when engorged with blood. If the blade has not already fed within 24 hours, any creature grasping the blade immediately takes 1d6 points of Con damage with a DC 20 Reflex save for half damage. Those that fail the saving throw are stuck to the blade and continue taking 1d6 Con damage each round until they succeed or die. Once a successful saving throw is made and the blade has fed, it can be grasped and handled normally for 24 hours.
The blade desires blood even after its been fed, and dealing 1 point of bleedout damage with every hit (this stacks with the bleedout abilities of the flamberge). If the weapon has caused a creature to bleedout (losing 20% of their health) the weapon is considered to have fed for the next 24 hours as well. By ensuring the weapon is well fed they can avoid the blade turning on them.
The wielder can willingly sacrifice their own blood to the blade, taking 1 to 5 points of Con burn and gaining an equal amount of untyped bonus on attack and damage for the next 24 hours. Unlike normal ability burn, this ability burn is fully restored after 24 hours.
They can also attack themselves as a move action, dealing 20% of their maximum hit points in damage (which can kill the user). In exchange they gain their character level as a profane bonus to attack and damage (max +20 at 20th) to their next successful attack if made within 1 round, and all the damage dealt by the weapon is vile damage.
If the user cannot take Con damage or burn, the weapon becomes violent, and any attacks immediately turn on the wielder using their attack and damage. Effectively such a weapon can be held, but is unusable by such creatures.
Prerequisites: Craft Magic Arms and Armor, bestow curse, vampiric touch.
