Changeling Paragon, Variant[edit]

The Changeling Paragon is functionally invisible, becoming one with the crowd, changing races like most people change expressions, and excelling at whatever they put their minds to. With rigorous training they overcome some of their race's natural weakness while maintaining an enviable degree of flexibility most other classes and even other Changelings can only dream of. This training comes at a price, for the Changeling Paragon is never quite the match of others who focus more narrowly in their chosen class, but the Paragon more than makes up for it with their array of innate abilities and improvements to their Morphing power.

Making a Changeling Paragon[edit]

The Changeling Paragon is literally the everyman, a canny infiltrator or party face. While usually not found on the front lines with the dedicated fighters, the Changeling Paragon makes a valuable support fighter or even a caster, depending on their levels in other base classes.

Abilities: Changeling Paragons value different abilities, depending on their base classes, but all of them benefit from high Charisma scores, which aid in their disguise and bluff attempts.

Races: Changeling.

Alignment: Any, but the duplicitous nature of the Changeling's morph ability lends itself to more chaotic or evil alignments.

Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the Changeling Paragon.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: The Changeling Paragon is proficient with all Simple weapons and Light Armor, but not with shields.

Partial Progression: The Changeling's Paragon class gives advancement to pre-existing class features, such as sneak attack, bardic songs per day (but not bardic music known), caster level (but not spells known), and initiator level (but not new maneuvers). It does not grant new class features, nor does it grant spells per day, spells known, or similar abilities. However, previous class features can be advanced at the cost of improvements elsewhere, see the Variable BAB, Saves & HD below.

Variable BAB, Saves & HD: The Changeling Paragon is a master of versatility. At 1st level they choose one of the following progressions. Once chosen this cannot be changed.

  • Moderate BAB, 2 Good Saves, d6 HD, 6+Int Skill Points
  • Moderate BAB, 2 Good Saves, d8 HD, 4+Int Skill Points
  • Good BAB, 1 Good Save, d8 HD, 2+Int Skill Points
  • Poor BAB, 1 Good Save, d6 HD, 2+Int Skill Points, +1 level of previous spellcasting/manifesting/invocations/maneuvers

Improved Morph (Ex): At each level of Changeling Paragon, the Morph ability improves. At 1st level, the Changeling gains the ability to morph into any humanoid or monstrous humanoid race of ECL 2 or less, with the same restrictions as usual otherwise. At 2nd level, this increases to any race of ECL 3 or lower, and you gain the ability to morph into small creatures. While this is an extraordinary ability, you gain the effects of a reduce person spell with regard to your ability scores and possessions. At 3rd level, you gain the ability to morph into Large size humanoids or monstrous humanoids, gaining the effects of enlarge person with respect to your ability scores and possessions. Lastly, you take on the subtype of the humanoid you are disguised as. You still retain your shapechanger subtype, but you now also qualify as the mimicked humanoid's subtype for the purposes of magical items, spells or other effects. If the subtype you are disguised has low-light vision, darkvision or the scent ability, you gain these as free traits, with darkvision to a maximum of 60', so long as you are disguised like that subtype.

Permanent Trait (Ex): At each level of the Changeling Paragon class the Changeling gains a single trait from a race they can morph into that they retain permanently. This trait must follow all the same restrictions of their Morph ability.

+2 Con (Ex): At 2nd level, the Changeling Paragon's rigorous training in morphic alteration pays off in the form of increased resilience, providing them with a permanent +2 Racial bonus to their Constitution, reducing their penalty to a cumulative -2.

+2 Any (Ex): At 3rd level, the Changeling Paragon gains a +2 racial bonus to a single ability score, or a +1 racial bonus to two different ability scores.
