This spell is an intended replacement for the Hellish Rebuke spell, and any feature or subclass that grants the Hellish Rebuke spell (Tiefling lineage, etc.) should grant this spell instead.

5e Spell Elemental Rebuke
1st-level evocation
Casting Time: 1 Reaction, taken when a creature you can see within the spell's range is damaged by a creature you can see within range.
Range: 60ft
Components: V, S
Duration: Instantaneous
Casters: Sorcerer, Warlock, Wizard

You point your finger, and a burst of elemental power erupts from the creature that inflicted the damage. The creature must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, they suffer 2d8 points of damage; On a successful save, they suffer half as much damage. If they fail the saving throw by 5 or more, they also fall prone.

The damage dealt by the spell is Acid, Cold, Fire, Lightning, Poison or Thunder damage, chosen at the time of casting. Immediately after the spell deals damage, it channels invigorating energy to the target's victim. The creature that suffered the damage that triggered this spell gains temporary hit pounts equal to half of the damage dealt by this spell (Rounded down), which last until the beginning of your next turn.

At Higher Levels. When cast using a slot of 2nd level or higher, the damage increases by 1d8 for each slot level above 1st.
