It was rotund like a pudgy man made of white balloons, with two simple black dots for eyes. Could this be what they call "friend shaped"?
Simple and pure souls who love animals sometimes ascend as Faunaphiels in the afterlife, becoming a cheerfully pudgy humanoid seemingly made of balloons, or perhaps marshmallows, with a soft exterior and surprisingly expressive face for lacking any facial features beyond two beady black eyes. Faunaphiels are the caretakers of celestial animals and the Wilderness of the Beastlands, and cannot abide animal cruelty. They are best known for lending a helping hand finding lost animals and rescuing cats from trees.
Faunaphiels stand 6 ft tall but weigh only about 60 lbs, as their interior appears to be inflated with light gas. They are naturally buoyant and may float upward in water up to 30 ft each round.
A faunaphiel is found wanting in combat, with its soft body only able to deal non-lethal damage. However its embrace ability is a potent weapon against violence from animal and humanoid alike.
Breathless (Ex): Unlike most outsiders, a faunaphiel does not need to breathe.
Embrace (Su): If a faunaphiel makes a successful grapple attempt, the grappled creature must make a Will save against calm emotions (DC 15) for as long as the grapple lasts. A calmed creature will usually be talked down before being released. Calmed creatures can continue to attempt to break the grapple but otherwise are subject to the spell's effect. The save DC is Charisma based.
Immunities (Ex): A faunaphiel is immune to disease and poison.
Puff (Ex): As a move action a faunaphiel can puff their body up, becoming one size larger with the effects of enlarge person but reducing their movement speeds in half. In this state they may levitate freely, and will often do so to make a soft landing or to get to a high place. While puffed, they are immune to bludgeoning damage entirely. They may unpuff as a move action.
Rescue Cat (Ex): Not actually limited to cats but most known for it, a faunaphiel is capable of making their Embrace attempt at 20 ft range for anyone in a tree or tree-like structure. They can climb with both hands full when using this ability, and they have a +4 on the touch attack and grapple check against feline creatures.
Spell-Like Abilities (Sp): At will- speak with animals, sanctuary (self only, DC 14); 2/day-animal trance (DC 15), calm animals (DC 14), cure light wounds; 1/day-hide from animals (self only). Caster level 3rd, the save DC is Charisma based.
Soft Body (Ex): The faunaphiels absurdly soft body makes them take 1/2 damage from bludgeoning and fall damage, and the damage is always non-lethal.
Skills: A faunaphiel has a +8 racial bonus on Climb checks. It can always choose to take 10 on Climb checks, even if rushed or threatened.
A faunaphiel can be summoned with a summon monster IV spell.
