Ghastly Ghoul[edit]

Ghastly Ghouls are intelligent undead flesh eaters created from acts of cannibalism and starvation.

The Ghoul is gaunt to the point of emaciation, its desiccated skin pulled tightly over its bones. With its ribs pushing out against its skin, its complexion the ash-gray of death, and its eyes pushed back deep into their sockets with an unearthly glow, the Ghoul looked like a gaunt corpse recently disinterred from the grave. What lips it had were tattered and bloody ... Unclean and suffering from suppurations of the flesh, the Ghoul gave off a strange and eerie odor of decay and decomposition, of death and corruption

Paralysis (Ex): A creature hit and damaged by a Ghoul's feral strike weapons must make a Fortitude save (DC = 10 + 1/2 HD + Charisma modifier) or be numbed for 1d6 +2 rounds. If a creature fails its save by 5 or more it is instead paralyzed for the same duration. Elves are immune to this effect. This is a poison effect and resistance or immunity to poison applies. The Ghoul's paralysis can only affect a creature once per round, regardless of how many times it hits with its feral strike weapons.

Special Qualities: A Ghastly Ghoul receive the following special qualities:

Ghoul Fever (Su): Disease — bite, Fort save negates, incubation period 1 day, damage 1d3 Con and 1d3 Dex. The save DC is Charisma-based. An afflicted creature who dies of ghoul fever rises as a ghoul at the next midnight. It is not under the control of any other ghouls, but it hungers for the flesh of the living and behaves like a normal ghoul in all respects.

Damage Reduction (Ex): A Ghastly Ghoul has 5 + half her hit dice in damage reduction/slashing and magic, good or silver. A silver holy weapon deal 50% more damage to a Ghastly Ghoul.

Unliving (Ex): Unlike a normal undead, a Ghastly Ghoul has many of the traits of a living creature. He is not destroyed when she is brought below 0 HP, but is rendered inert and dies when brought to -20 HP. He receives a +10 bonus on disguise checks to disguise himself as a living creature. He receives Unliving Heart as a bonus feat.

Scent

Stench (Ex): The stink of death and corruption surrounding these creatures is overwhelming. A Ghouls with 4 or more HD has this ability. Living creatures within 10 feet of a ghoul must succeed on a Fortitude save or be sickened for as long as they remain within range of its stench and for 1d6 rounds + 1 round per HD after leaving range. A creature that successfully saves cannot be affected again by the same ghouls’s stench for 24 hours. A delay poison or neutralize poison spell removes the effect from a sickened creature. Creatures with immunity to poison are unaffected, and creatures resistant to poison receive their normal bonus on their saving throws. The save DC is Charisma-based.

Fast Healing (Ex): A Ghastly Ghoul has Fast Healing 1.

Turn Resistance (Ex): A Ghastly Ghoul has +4 Turn Resistance.

Vulnerable to Heat and Light (Ex): A Ghastly Ghoul is automatically dazzled in natural sunlight. Fire, and Light effects deal 50% more damage to the Ghastly Ghoul. The Ghastly Ghoul has the Flammable flaw except Light effects also cause you to catch fire.
