Gleep[edit]

Intelligent sheep with wool that resembles the night sky, these creatures are said to be descendants of interstellar fey. At least that is the rumor, otherwise they may have been the product of wizards of no sense of right or wrong again.

Personality[edit]

Gleep are adorable, if single minded and determined. These creatures are generally peaceful and mild, but they form strange obsessions and behavior patterns for which they become stubbornly defiant over. Because of their animal-like appearance, many cannot take them terribly seriously. How the gleep feels about this is largely a matter of the individual.

Physical Description[edit]

Gleep resemble actual normal sheep, if unusually round, fluffy, and cute. Their large wide eyes sparkle with intellect which does not befit their non-humanoid forms. Their wool is usually some shade of midnight purple, black, blue, or other night-sky hues and is inlayed with "star patterns" due to the knots of crystal which naturally grows among their curly wool. The shine of these crystal not only resembles stars, but seem to actively mimic actual night sky constellations and patterns. Some believe that gleep were originally from space, a sort of space fey, which landed and settled upon the planet long ago. If true, no gleep in living memory can recall the truth of the matter.

Gleep can remove the "crystal stars" from their body, providing small motes of light which can be used for several purposes, or eject them all at once to coat the area in glittering sparks that blind and reveal the unseen. It is believed these crystals are a result of latent psionic manifestation which they no longer have a direct connection to.

Relations[edit]

Gleep usually keep a peaceful relation to other species, but many take care to be wary in rural areas, where they may be confused for a generic animal and placed in a pen by accident.

Alignment[edit]

Gleep can be any alignment, but most choose to be non-evil as their passive gentle natures do not permit for the scheming or malice of darker mindsets.

Lands[edit]

Gleep are often found near other fey-like species, strengthening the idea that they may have relation to these beings.

Religion[edit]

Gleep do not have any specific religion, but many end up worshiping gods associated with the stars, the sky, the sun, and the moon.

Language[edit]

Common and Sylvan

Names[edit]

Gleep usually pick up names appropriate to the area they are in.

Racial Traits[edit]

  • +2 Constitution or +2 Charisma: Durable and soft due to their fluffy wool coats, and considered adorable by many.
  • Magical Beast: As sheep-shaped creatures they are more animal than humanoid.
  • Small: As a Small creature, a gleep gains a +1 size bonus to Armor Class, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls, a –4 size penalty on special attack (bull rushes, grapples, overruns, and trips) checks, and a +4 size bonus on Hide checks, but it uses smaller weapons than humans use, and its lifting and carrying limits are three-quarters of those of a Medium character.
  • Gleep base land speed is 30 feet.
  • Darkvision: A gleep can see in the dark up to 60 feet. Darkvision is black and white only, but it is otherwise like normal sight, and a gleep can function just fine with no light at all.
  • Low-Light Vision: A gleep can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination. She retains the ability to distinguish color and detail under these conditions.
  • Adorable (Ex): Gleep are considered to have adorable armor enhancement at all times, which stacks with actual Adorable armor. It comes with the subsequent +1 competence bonus on Bluff, Diplomacy, and Gather Information checks, and a -2 penalty on Intimidate checks.
  • Cosmic Glitter (Su): Gleep wool is covered in shimmering glitter that resembles stars and can glow on command while on the gleep, shedding light of any color as bright as a torch and can be toggled or adjusted as a free action. Glitter can be removed, each which can shine like a candle on its own for up to 24 hours before losing potency. Glitter is slightly tacky and can be stuck to most surfaces. Lastly, glitter can be ejected forcefully en masse from the gleep as a standard action, duplicating glitterdust centered on themselves in a 15 ft radius burst, DC 10 + 1/2 HD + Con or Cha modifier, whichever is higher. They can do this once per day (and lose the ability to sparkle until they rest). At 5 HD and every 5 HD beyond they gain an additional use per day before they run out and lose the ability to sparkle.
  • Item Obsession (Ex): Gleep are known to be really obsessive about particular items they own, making them avid collectors. They gain a +4 bonus on all skill and ability check when dealing with finding or acquiring more of the item (such as appraising or pick-pocketing it). If the item is removed from them unwillingly, such as being stolen, they may enter a state of rage as a 1st level barbarian (or a barbarian of their level) without using any rage as a non-action upon realizing the loss. This does not consume any actual rage uses, if applicable. Every time they level (or once a year) they may change their obsession to a new item.
  • Monstrous Form (Ex): Gleep count as having monstrous bodies and require barding for the purpose of armor costs. They have a +4 bonus on ability checks made to resist being bull rushed or tripped when standing on the ground (but not when climbing, flying, riding, or otherwise not standing firmly on the ground). They lack a magic item slot for rings and gloves, but have an extra slot for feet. Gleep are small quadrupeds, but are capable of holding small and smaller riders as if they were a medium creature. They are not medium creatures for any other aspect.
  • Mouthgrip (Ex): The mouth of a gleep is as good as one-hand for any purpose, even wielding weapons or making somatic components with facial expressions. However if they have something in their mouths, they are unable to make vocal components and can only communicate the most basic of messages through mumbled mouthfuls.
  • Nimble Hooves (Ex): A gleep can briefly stand on their hind legs and use their forehooves, which are split in such a way as to mimic the grip of a hand. They can hold items just fine, but items wielded in their forehooves take a -2 penalty on any action involving them, and their movement speed drops to 15 ft while doing this. Standing or dropping from quadruped stance is a free action that does not provoke attacks of opportunity.
  • Sparkle Eyes (Ex): The gleep has doll-like eyes that sparkle, and it is used to the hypnotic glitter of the stars. It is immune to blindness from bright lights and from the effects of glitterdust.
  • Automatic Languages: Common and Sylvan
