Hellfrost[edit]

When Mephistopheles created the powerful hellfire, his research also delved into the other extreme. Where burning hellfire was so infernally hot as to cremate fire elementals, hellfrost was an absolute zero so potent it could freeze ice creatures to death. The research into hellfrost was abandoned due to the easier destructive capabilities of hellfire and subsequent fire-like, spreadable traits. Still, some say hellfrost was actually a weapon created in opposition of hellfire by a rival ice devil, an ice devil who has now been stamped out.

Hellfrost seems like any cold damage, producing freezing vapors and solidifying liquid mediums into ice. However if one was to gaze into the beautiful ice crystals one could see a disturbing sheen, the faint echo of tormented spirits. Simply being near it absorbs the heat from around it, and if one is in contact for too long, they begin to crystallize fully, water, flesh, and even breath, turning into a frozen statue, waiting for a hand to brush against it and to spread like a virus. Hellfrost never warms or melts, save by application by hellfire or some overwhelming force far beyond what would be required to melt metals.

In some material planes, this particular ice is sometimes called Ice IX. Possibly as a field test for hellfrost as a weapon, a prime material world was destroyed when all of its oceans were frozen permanently.
