Life Animal [General] Prerequisites: Power AnimalBenefit: As long as your animal companion lives, your HP cannot drop below -9 and your constitution cannot drop below 1.

You are essentially immune to true death unless your animal companion dies first. Once your animal companion's HP drops to -10, you become as mortal as anyone else.
