This treasure chest looks safe. MY HAND!!!

You transform yourself into an object up to two sizes larger or smaller than yourself. For example, a Medium creature can transform into a dagger (a Tiny object) or a Huge object like a cart. They have all the functionality and purpose of an item, but lack its typical hardness and hp. Instead they gain DR 10/magic and they possess all the senses of the caster, plus darkvision 60 ft and low-light vision. While in item form they are considered the Construct type with all the weaknesses and immunities associated. Status effects such as poison are suppressed as an item, but the duration returns when you revert. One cannot move in this state, nor can one cast. One can only wait or discharge the spell through their ambush attack.

The ambush attack is a swift action you can attack a creature within a 5 ft range, lunching out and gnawing at them with sharp teeth and powerful acid which springs out of your rapidly transforming figure. Make an attack roll using your caster level as your BAB + your casting ability modifier. This deals 1d10 bludgeoning, slashing, and piercing damage and another 1d10 acid damage per 2 caster levels. For example a 10th level caster does 5d10 physical and 5d10 acid damage. After this you immediately revert to your normal form and proceed and usual, likely taking advantage of the surprise round you just received.

While you're in item form you do not need to eat, breath, or sleep, nor do you age. Spellcasters wishing to see the future (in a one-way trip) sometimes transform into mimic items to pass the years, though some have spent so long that they've forgotten their humanity and rumor has it actual mimics are spellcasters who, after hundreds of years of mimicry, became forever locked in this as their natural state.

Material Component: A small random wooden model.
