A swarm of small black simple robots poured down the stairs like rain. Though little more than a flexible ball joint with two ends, they rapidly clattered together into the shape of an arm ending in a giant hammer.

Scientia's efforts into nanobot technology were largely successful, and the Myobite-6 Microbot Swarm was one of many projects to come out of their labs before the Grey Goo incident (we don't talk about the Grey Goo incident). As one of the nanomachines not to have caused the apocalypse, the microbot swarm continues to be produced today for the purposes of modeling, construction, destruction, recycling, and many other purposes. The reason of course is their versatility. A single Myobite is little more than a ball joint with two magnetic tips, and the most simplistic of AI. However en mass, their intelligence grows to the point where they are able to take verbal commands and perform complex actions.

The Myobite-6 Microbot Swarm are black due to their high iron content. In spite of being made of metal, individual pieces are fragile and easily shattered on heavy impact.

Combat[edit]

Unlike most swarms, microbot swarms are intelligent and work together to complete their goals. And unlike any swarm, they are capable of attacking beyond the reach of their individual units. They are as dangerous as a large creature, and possess the defensive traits of swarms. It can choose to not deal its swarm damage to creatures within, but with its base programming it cannot tell the difference between "don't swarm attack this creature" and "don't swarm attack all creatures".

Constructor (Ex): The microbot swarm can assume any shape within a 10 ft cube, down to the size of a tiny object (such as a dagger). It cannot assume complex shapes or shapes with moving parts. It can, however, assume the shape of stairs, or a door, or a shovel. For the purposes of weight capacity, use it's Dexterity in place of strength, and treat it as a Large creature. The object is clearly abnormal and made of tiny machines. While assuming a shape, it loses its swarm traits. Assuming a shape is a standard action, and returning to swarm form is also a standard action.

Disassemble (Ex): The microbot swarm can tear complex items apart. When it is engulfing an object, it can use Disable Device upon it. It gains a +10 racial bonus to Disable Device checks.

Distraction (Ex): Any living creature that begins its turn with a swarm in its space must succeed on a DC 15 Fortitude save or be nauseated for 1 round. The save DC is Constitution-based.

Energy Reaction (Ex): The microbot swarm reacts strangely when exposed to certain energy damage. The reaction lasts for 1 round.

Cold: The microbot swarm begins to ice up and movement is limited. The speed of the microbot swarm is cut in half.

Electricity: The microbot swarm is weak to electricity, as it messes up with their magnetic properties. In addition to damage, it must make a DC 15 Fortitude save or be dazed for 1 round.

Fire: The microbot swarm is more dangerous when heated. It deals an additional 1d6 fire damage on its attacks and glows like a candle when exposed to fire damage.

Programming: The autonomous combine possesses the following programs: Attack, Collect, Mimic, Reposition, Search, Self-Preservation, Sort.

Swarm Weapons (Ex): The microbot swarm can transform a bulk of its mass into a weapon as a free action on its turn. It can mimic any simple or martial melee weapon, treating as if it was holding it with one or two hands. The damage is the same as the duplicated weapon. It has the damage and reach of a Large creature.

Construction[edit]

Myobite-6 Microbot Swarm are build out of a iron, rare earth minerals, and magnets. In addition its computer core requires special components and programming. The cost of enough of the base material components for a swarm are worth 4400 gp.

Assembling the body requires a DC 26 Craft (technology) check, a DC 26 Knowledge Engineering, or a DC 26 Knowledge Xeno check.

CL 13th; Craft Construct, lesser geas, summon swarm; Price 44,000 gp; Cost 19,800 gp + 1584 XP.
