Runebearer

An arcane shaman who gains a rune instead of a spirit animal when they bind themselves to a spirit. The runebearer lacks the ability to communicate with a spirit animal or wandering spirits, instead they draw more and more power from the arcane rune on their body.

Class: Pathfinder Shaman

Level: 1st, 4th, 6th, 12th, 20th

Replaces: Spellcasting (Altered), Spirit Animal, Wandering Spirit, Wandering Hex

Benefit: A Runebearer gain the following class features:

Armor and Weapon Proficiency: A runebearer is not proficient with medium armor.

Spellcasting: A runebearer is an arcane spellcaster instead of a divine spellcaster. A runebearer can cast her shaman spells in light armor without risking arcane spell failure.

Rune of Power (Ex): A 1st level runebearer has a rune etched somewhere prominent on her body, usually her forehead, back of the hand or on her chest. The runebearer must commune with her rune instead of a spirit animal in order to prepare her spells. The runebearer must choose a school of magic the rune represents, once chosen this cannot be changed. The rune acts as an occultist implement of the chosen school, granting its resonant power and base focus power to the runebearer. The runebearer counts as having 2 + half her class level invested in her rune of power, which she may expend to activate her Base Focus Power or any Focus Power Hex (see below). Finally a runebearer adds a single spell on the sorcerer/wizard list or occultist list of each spell level to her shaman spell list, the spell must be of the same school as her rune of power.

Hex Selection: In addition to her normal list of hex, a runebearer may choose an Occultist's Focus Power of a school associated with her rune's school. She uses her shaman level as her occultist level for the purpose of focus power.

Overwhelming Sigil (Ex): When a 4th level runebearer casts a shaman spell of the same school as her rune of power she increases its caster level and DC by 1. At 12th level the bonus to caster level and DC increases to +2.

Wandering Focus (Ex): When a 6th level runebearer prepares her spell for the day, she may choose a single Occultist's Focus Power of any school for which she meets the level prerequisites. She may use that focus power as if she had taken it as an hex.

True Rune (Ex): A 20th level runebearer has unlocked the true power of her rune. She automatically beats spell resistance when casting a spell of her rune of power's school and she treats spell immunity as spell resistance equal to 20 + CR, which she needs to roll to beat. She may cast spells of her rune of power's school in antimagic field or similar effect if she spend a point of mental focus during the casting.
