Scrybb Sith[edit]

Bush people born of plants and fey, the scrybb sith are also known as bushels or shrubbies.

Personality[edit]

In the past the prototypical scrybb sith were wild and vivacious faeries which were hunted by predators, fell wolves born of the shadow plane. The wolves broke through their faerie circles and so the faeries fled to hide in the bushes, becoming one of the bush and being unseen and unfound by the meat-seeking predators. Thus they kept their plant adornments to stay safe until they and plant were one in the same. As a result of their past the scrybb sith are flighty and whimsical as any fae, but cowardly and craven when faced with danger. They often hide out as bushes whenever the unknown is about until they can determine the true nature of others.

In recent times some have made greater efforts to actively go out into the world exploring beyond the boundaries of their plains, hills, and forest homes. Cities are fascinating to them but leave them nervous, as a bush stands out in the inorganic and alien environment.

Physical Description[edit]

A scrybb sith is a small humanoid creature not unlike a shortfolk with green skin, black lines around their eyes, patches of leaves on their legs, forearms, and waist, and more notably a large bush on their head for "hair". The bush is actually largely hollow, suspended by air pressure and which the flexible scrybb sith can quickly slide over their body like a shell. This makes them look very much like an actual bush in which they can peak out of or crawl away when not observed.

Their bodies are fibrous like plants and they show some manner of supernatural shapeshifting, specifically altering their limbs into biting plant maws. It's also believed this shapechanging is responsible for how easily they fit inside their bush-hair.

While most scrybb sith are green, scrybb sith of certain regions will have variations on the appearance of their apparent flora including, supposedly, a cactus version and a version which changes with the seasons from green, to brown, to gnarled twig-like horns and back again. Shedding leaves is common even in normal scrybb sith, and they regrow quickly.

Scrybb sith live off sunlight, water, and trace minerals. While they can eat dirt, many prefer to consume something more flavorful. They are usually big into savory and salty flavors, and enjoy a good soup.

The reproduction of scrybb sith is unclear. While they are believed to reproduce with males and females as separate genders, the resulting child takes the form of an acorn-like egg which is planted and grown into a new scrybb sith. Until they remove themselves from the earth they are nearly identical to any traditional bush.

Relations[edit]

Scrybb sith have by and large stayed out of the affairs with others, but as the civilized world grows around them they are forced out of their comfort zones and into action. How each group reacts varies with culture, with some resisting the surge of humanoids and their civilization, while others have come into trade or actively live amongst others.

Alignment[edit]

Scrybb sith are generally any non-lawful, having been born of fae origins.

Lands[edit]

The scrybb sith traditionally live within hills, plains, and forests, as well as any place where bushes or bush-like flora can be found.

Religion[edit]

Scrybb sith are not known to be religious, with most having just some manner of passing respect for nature itself.

Language[edit]

Scrybb sith speak Common and Sylvan.

Names[edit]

Scrybb sith names most resemble elven names or fae names for reasons which are obvious.

Racial Traits[edit]

  • -2 Strength, +2 Charisma: Small and weak, yet they hold a fey's spirit of spontaneity and intensity in all that they do.
  • Fey (Augmented Plant): These fey are bound into plants, and thus have the features of a plant and the traits of a fey.
  • Small: As a Small creature, a scrybb sith gains a +1 size bonus to Armor Class, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls, a –4 size penalty on special attack (bull rushes, grapples, overruns, and trips) checks, and a +4 size bonus on Hide checks, but it uses smaller weapons than humans use, and its lifting and carrying limits are three-quarters of those of a Medium character.
  • Scrybb Sith base land speed is 20 feet.
  • Low-Light Vision: A scrybb sith can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination. She retains the ability to distinguish color and detail under these conditions.
  • Bush Cover (Ex): The scrybb sith may hide under their bush whenever they drop prone. They gain a +10 on disguise checks to appear as a normal bush, or +15 if they blind themselves by hiding their eyes. Disguise is always a class skill.
  • Crawl Mastery (Ex): The scrybb sith are very good at moving while prone. They do not take a penalty to attack and AC while prone, can move up to half their speed while prone (though they cannot take a 5 ft step), and can stand up as a free action without provoking attacks of opportunity.
  • Photosynthesis (Ex): 8 hours of sunlight is enough to count as a full meal. In addition while exposed to the sun they benefit from Rapid Healing equal to their HD each hour.
  • Nature Blessing (Ex): The scrybb sith benefits from both wild empathy as a ranger of its level and woodland stride. Their wild empathy also extends to Plant creatures. If they gain either of these two class features, they gain a +3 to wild empathy checks and woodland stride now applies even to magically augmented overgrowth. They can choose to run any Wisdom based spellcasting for nature classes such as druid and ranger off of Charisma instead.
  • Snapdragon Strike (Ex): The scrybb sith have a special unarmed strike which are bite attacks done with their limbs. They deal 1d4 bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage and count as possessing Improved Unarmed Strike. If they gain a monk's unarmed strike, they may use the snapdragon strike or their fists and the snapdragon strike gains a 20/x3 critical.
