Self-Taught

All your fellow dwarves in dwarf school were lined up, swinging their practice axes under the watchful eye of the instructor. You, however, crept off into the corner with that sweet-looking trident...

Benefit: You gain proficiency or familiarity with one or more weapons not normally granted to members of your race.

Drawback: You lose proficiency or familiarity with one or more weapons normally granted to members of your race equal to the number of new weapons with which you gained proficiency or familiarity.

Special: The new weapons must be of the same or lower category as the one being replaced (i.e., simple, martial, or exotic). For example, you could give up your racial proficiency with a martial weapon and choose either a different martial or simple weapon. You could give up proficiency with an exotic weapon and choose a different exotic weapon, or a martial weapon or a simple weapon. Races without racial weapons cannot benefit from this trait.

For a Low or Moderate version of this trait, exotic weapons may not be selected.

Roleplaying Ideas: Perhaps a traveling relative or family friend showed you some moves with his favorite weapon when you were younger, and you've wanted one for yourself ever since. Perhaps you got a bizarre weapon in a white elephant gift exchange and thought to yourself, what the heck, why not learn to use it. Perhaps someone close to you was killed by enemies bearing an unfamiliar weapon, and you vowed to use that same type of weapon to carry out your revenge. Perhaps you just wanted to stand out and look cool, and be the only one in the neighborhood who could use a pair of battle shears.
