The worst part as it tore through the camp wasn't the blood and severed limbs... it was the laughter as they did it.
The warm weather counterparts to winter wolves, the summar hyena grows about 8 feet long and stands 4 and a half feet at the shoulder. They weigh about 450 lbs, and their teeth appear to be made of iron.
Summer hyenas can speak Giant and Common.
Combat[edit]
Slightly stronger and stealthier than winter wolves, they lack their knack for tracking. They find creatures in dangerous situations, wait until they are wounded, and ambush them when they least expect it.
Breath Weapon (Su): 15-foot cone, once every 1d4 rounds, damage 4d6 fire, Reflex DC 16 half. The save DC is Constitution-based.
Burning Bite (Su): A summer hyena deals an extra 1d6 points of fire damage every time it bites an opponent, as if its bite were a flaming weapon.
Trip (Ex): A summer hyena that hits with a bite attack can attempt to trip the opponent (+9 check modifier) as a free action without making a touch attack or provoking an attack of opportunity. If the attempt fails, the opponent cannot react to trip the summer hyena.
Skills: Summer hyenas have a +1 racial bonus on Listen, Move Silently, and Spot checks. Summer hyenas have a +2 racial bonus on Hide checks. *Their natural coloration grants them a +7 racial bonus on Hide checks in areas of tall grass or heavy undergrowth.
