The Maneuver Wizard[edit]

Interesting, never thought I'd see a Poor BAB initator. It does have in-built Knowledge Devotion to make up for it though, and gives a stronger focus on standard-action strikes. -- Eiji-kun 00:15, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

That was pretty much my logic. I tried to make a 'maneuver wizard', so I think it worked out OK. I'm gonna add it to Complete Sublime as soon as I've written the fluff up. - MisterSinister 00:17, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

Prestige classes and called maneuvers[edit]

You should describe how Sublime prestige classes interact with the readying mechanic of this class. Presumably, increases to maneuvers readied translate just increase maneuvers called per day, but that should be explicated. --DanielDraco 02:42, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

That's a good point. I'll definitely make a note of it in a sidebar or something. - MisterSinister 06:40, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
Well, that took an embarassingly long time, but now it's up. - MisterSinister 07:04, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
They don't advance max maneuvers called? --DanielDraco 21:35, 21 August 2012 (UTC)
How about if you multiclass? If you take more than one initiating class can you ready manuevers you know from this class without calling them. Also would you have to call maneuver from other base classes? --grog toad

Fortified[edit]

It's not clear what is meant by it not stacking with the fortification armor ability. Does it apply separately (roll both of them), or does only the better one apply? Also, this text about overlapping should probably be broadened to include anything that negates sneak attacks and crits, not just that armor property. --DanielDraco 21:50, 18 September 2011 (UTC)

The intent is that you don't roll twice - this is the only ability you check, even if you have anything similar from another source. I think I'll just clarify that right now. - MisterSinister 07:15, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
Clearer, but you introduced the issue of it being a disadvantage if you have, for example, moderate fortification (75% negation). I fixed that for you, though. Un-fix and re-fix to your liking if you disagree with my wording. --DanielDraco 17:39, 19 September 2011 (UTC)

I like this class in principle. But the low BAB throws me. What does a Battle Scholar do in a fight? Initiate a strike and then miss? Or use nothing but boosts, counters, and rushes? Because neither of those sound terrible effective, and Knowledge of War does not fix it. Also, it's never going to use that Combat Expertise feat you gave it. Just, never.

It a really good class, while the class is an oddball it really work out in the end. The class abilities are great and I like the way it use maneuvers. My only very small complaint the 'There is Nothing I don't know' class features which may end some mysteries rather anticlimactically in some isolated case. Overall a balanced and solid class.

Army of one[edit]

The Army of one discipline has maneuvers that allow you to use maneuvers you know without readying them. How does this interact with called maneuvers?-The Winter King

Exactly how you expect. Your 'maneuvers known' doesn't in any way interact with your 'maneuvers called' for this purpose, since 'called' maneuvers are like everyone else's 'readied' ones. - MisterSinister 21:35, 2 May 2012 (UTC)

Knowledge of War[edit]

As I said in my review above, I'm concerned that, as it approaches mid levels, a Battle Scholar becomes utterly incapable of hitting. And Knowledge of War doesn't fix that, because its DC is the standard Knowledge DC -- 10 + HD. So it becomes harder and harder to make that check as you go up in levels, because HD inflates past CR faster than skill bonuses do. This class could be fixed, I think, by making the DC 10 + CR or some similar derivative. Possibly in addition to bumping their BAB up to Moderate, because even with a consistent +6 from Knowledge of War, I'm not convinced that it's enough to hit at high levels. --DanielDraco 00:17, 25 August 2012 (UTC)

Given MS's previously stated frustration with HD scaling, it is rather surprising to see it here instead of CR. My guess is it's probably an oversight and I'm tempted to correct it for him, but I'll wait since he needs to respond to the other bits. - Tarkisflux Talk 04:46, 25 August 2012 (UTC)

Master of Adaptation[edit]

Is this intended to allow you to replace all your maneuvers and stances with those of the highest level known? Because the way it is phrased, the clause about "qualified for it at the time" only applies to feats.

There is nothing I don't know[edit]

Automatically succeed all Knowledge checks. To quote James Heller: "Oh, I could start some shit with that." -SecondDeath777 15 April 2018

Combat Maneuvers[edit]

It occurs to me that due to poor BAB they are bad at combat maneuvers like Disarm and Grapple. I suspected this was intended to be covered by Esoteric Martial Training, but at the moment it does not. Clarification requested. -- Eiji-kun (talk) 04:11, 5 May 2018 (MDT)
