Ratings[edit]

I'm surprised at how much I don't like this class. Firstly, its central ability Insidious Venom is one of the most confusingly written things I've ever seen; it's all out of order, it's redundant at times, and after reading it several times I still don't understand all of it.

The flavor lauded by others seems...Marvelesque, to me. That's maybe not a bad thing, but it's certainly not good.

But my biggest gripe here is the class's impotence. Nearly everything it does is reactive, and its primary ability, while active, still has to wait and see what the enemy will do. This guy can't go off and just make things happen -- he only negates enemy actions and waits for them to fail to do something productive, and only then can he deal his primary damage. He's even less useful in noncombat encounters. He literally has no utility of any sort.

As a class, it is flavorful, balanced at the level is was created at, and really gives the mechanics of pools a nice usage in DnD. They are made pre-optimized and there are not many ways to optimize them. Just needs some more class-specific feat support and it'd be really good.

I realized I should probably go ahead and rate my favorite base class on the wiki. This class does the defender role in 3.5 in a way that is both really awesome and well balanced. More importantly, however, the class is a hell of a lot of fun to play. You aren't overwhelmed with options, but you still have to make tactical decisions every round. And there is no best way to play a toxinblade.

I've made several NPCs using this base class and each turned out very different from the last. They each had their own special quirks and played differently.

All in all, an awesome base class!

(if any)?[edit]

As per the line Toxin Points per round, and may forcibly create more by taking a full-round action to generate a number of Toxin Points equal to his Constitution bonus (if any).

Wouldn't it make sense to change (if any) to (minimum +1), so that anybody may use this and still gain more toxin points? Yes, I know it is rare that a toxinblade will not have a bonus for Con, but it is possible. Keep this a viable move always, please. -Havvy 05:59, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

I put it there to discourage people from doing so at low con. You're not supposed to waste full round actions to get TP if you're at close to +1 Con mod--+2 to +3 I could see, but wasting the whole action for just +1...? I just don't see it. --Ghostwheel 09:14, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

With grammar not befitting a five-year-old with an attention disorder, at that. - MisterSinister 00:32, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
Probably, anonymous was oblivious to this wiki's balance point assumptions, and balancing this class against the fighter. --Ideasmith 00:52, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
Better yet, the healer. - TG Cid 03:29, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
You're all wrong. This guy's balance point is a commoner. - MisterSinister 04:00, 14 September 2011 (UTC)

Insidious Venom Range?[edit]

So is anything within line of sight fair game? - Spanambula (talk) 12:23, 13 September 2013 (UTC)

"All abilities that require the use of Toxin Points have a range of Close (with effective caster level equal to character level) unless noted otherwise in the ability."
That said, I really need to give this class a reflavor/reword at some point... --Ghostwheel (talk) 14:54, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, it would be better to explicitly say the range with every ability. --Aarnott (talk) 13:42, 15 September 2013 (UTC)
