Comments[edit]

As written, this race is definitely LA-worthy (as much as I hate LA, it at least needs racial HD to compensate for all the shit it has. Seven feet tall is bordering on Large size, I think, but in this paricular case I would suggest that they not be large size so as to cut down on LA. Also, giving access to a whole sphere, Discord, and the insight bonuses (not to mention "something like evasion", which should just be evasion if you insist on giving it at all). Having an arbitrary "you can make a million gp by killing one of these and selling its gem to the right person" is also not a very good idea, in my opinion. Not sure I would allow thi to be used as a race, which basically defeats the purpose of its creation. - TG Cid 21:16, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

I hadn't finished writing it all out. LA+2 right now(I suck at balance usually), but the energy crystal is pretty much needed for the race, so while they could sell it for 750GP, the 1,000,000 GP is only if they have 20+ Bio-Energy in their pool, and even then, they would need to sell it to someone who would Pay 1,000,000 GP. Plus, for the record, you kill it, you gain 0 GP, because the gem shatters. Says in the description, which I admit is odd. --YX33A 21:44, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
Oh, and did I mention that they lose all bio-energy based traits while they don't have a gem, and it takes 1 month per trait that uses it? That's four months without extra feats, so it's not worth selling usually, since they are so deprived when it's gone.--YX33A 21:48, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
So you don't kill it. You capture one and torture it until it gives up. If it takes you months or even years to wear down the Zherihnghil's self-esteem enough for it to surrender its gem, it's still a worthwhile investment. --Foxwarrior 00:28, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
True, that could work. Tons of work, though. But, if I must defend against said point, allow me to explain one of the main sources of Inspiration for this: The Carbuncle from first edition Fiend Folio. You can't get the gem by torture from that creature. Why? They can simply will themselves to die. And they are quite willing to do so. As soon as they feel they are in a situation they can't profit from, or have fun in, which is causing them stress and/or pain, they kill themselves.
Hardly a racial trait worth mentioning on the race, IMO, since it is of no mechanical benefit. Pure fluff, unless it's needed to shut you guys up about the race being overpowered. Plus, 1,000,000 GP is only possible if you have someone willing to pay for it. Which is usually limited to Xenotheric races who could use it to power something massive. Maybe one of the Uongo-Mijusi's city ships, for a single jump. But even then, you'd need Macguiver to make it work. And they would only need it if, say, all power to the warp drives was lost, and they needed to jump right away.--YX33A 02:39, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
I just figured out a mechanical benefit to them being able to kill themselves. They fought for their freedom, and would rather die then be put back into bondage. Such drive can change genetics over time. If they can't be free, then they can end their life, and that of those around them.--YX33A 02:53, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
I added the trait Final Destination, and clarified the value of the crystal. 1,000,000 GP isn't what you could expect from any random person off the street. 1,000,000 GP, according to the price assigned, is for crystals with at least 500,000 Bio-Energy Points. Which is what I was aiming for anyway, that the highest value is damn near impossible to get off the things.--YX33A 03:04, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
I don't think the gem makes it overpowered or anything; if anything, it just gives it a bullseye on its back. The reason I brought it up is because I think that if it has no mechanical relevance, it shouldn't be in the racial traits. Fluff is what all the other sections are for. Racial traits are for mechanics, and anything that's not mechanically relevant shouldn't be in that section. It's that simple.
Races are only overpowered if you assign them an inappropriately low HD value or Level Adjustment given their abilities. The problem with this particular race is that its abilties are such that its LA is at the +2 level. Anything over +1 LA is never worth playing, in my opinion. LA just wrecks the game in every conceivable fashion. Having enough LA to be considered unplayable makes a race useless. - TG Cid 03:11, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
Could you retrofit a table of price based on bioenergy reserve? Also, I like the idea of them being a battery for starships... In times of trouble at least. Would you want them to be incorporated into the Power Cell (3.5e Equipment) page?
I had already thought up a few uses for the energy crystals. One was simply explosive, and the others for recharging things. I'm not sure that it's... wait, the V'Kai are already mentioned on the city ships, so why the hell not? I'll make a few entries for these things, once I figure out what to place them under. They aren't magical, but they sure are fantastic. Knowing me there will be a weapon made in time.--YX33A 14:13, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
Will fix the Power Cell (3.5e Equipment) page, such that "all Z cells are derived from Zherihnghil Energy Crystal's." Also, the power cell page has space on it for 2 weapons, and 2 pieces of armor, that can be powered by the cells. If you would want to merge them.
Also, zherihnghil's should to be incorporated into the Xeno Codex (3.5e Sourcebook)... If not there own chapter, at least as an aspect of the 1st or 6th chapters. live what you love --Franken Kesey 18:47, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
C'est La Vie. I'll write up some stuff for it. Wow. Bit of a rush. Or nausea. Maybe hunger. These feelings tend to get mixed up in my head. Guess I'll get a apple, drink some water, and smile.--YX33A 20:25, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
I disagree. Yes, each is played a different hand. But the key factor its how you play, not what you are played. If there is such a thing as destiny, it is never finite.
Have incorporated them into the Power Cell (3.5e Equipment) page. Let me know if anything is of. Speak softly and carry a big stick! --Franken Kesey 02:40, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

Invitation into Xeno Codex Sourcebook[edit]

Are you still interested in putting it into xeno codex? ...More-over making it a more through aspect of the source book in question. Madness is bliss --Franken Kesey 20:15, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

Yes, but I'm still thinking. Damn tough to come up with a decent back story sometimes.--YX33A 17:08, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

Overpowered[edit]

This seams very overpowered for a LA+2 race. While it is more simple to just add more LA, few people play races above LA+2. So I'd suggest just to tone it down. Putting everything you remove into another race. --Franken Kesey 19:18, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

Gonna have to review it. Discord is staying, no matter what(the race is based off of the Carbuncle from AD&D, which had a similar ability), maybe drop a feat... or lower a stat. Gonna have to think.--YX33A 17:08, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
I notice Discord doesn't have an action listed, or a save. Did you know that extraordinary abilities default to Free actions? Without a save, any reasonable deity/wizard who sees a level 1 Zherihnghil Commoner and knows what it is will be deathly afraid of letting it get within 30 feet. If a party doesn't know what it is, I'm pretty sure I could TPK them with one at any level. --Foxwarrior 20:57, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

Ship Cities[edit]
