Creaping in the shadows was something humanoid, but their skin was covered in fine scales and predatory eyes flashed within the dark.
A yuan-ti bred to ambush and assassinate their opponents, they are humanoid in form with a serpent head, and their skin covered in fine dull scales that seem to blend into whatever terrain they slip into. Patient and calculating, they hunt their prey over long periods of time and strike when their enemies least expect it. They are said to be emotionless and uncaring, the only time they seem to feel anything is on a successful kill. No action is taboo, no assault is dishonorable, only victory is important in the end.
Yuan-ti ambushers speak common and yuan-ti. They are slightly shorter than the average human.
Combat[edit]
The yuan-ti ambusher never willingly engaged in a fight which it did not set up itself. It sets up traps and ambushes, attempting to poison the target on the first round and then either prolonging the battle, sowing confusion, or attempting to flank and go in for the kill if the time looks opportune.
They usually carry some manner of poison with them. Typically they will bring a vial of any poison worth 100 gp or less, such as tiny viper poison or any other appropriate for the situation.
Alternate Form (Ex): A yuan-ti ambusher has the ability to transform into a tiny or small viper at will as a swift action. A transformed yuan-ti gains the Strength and Dexterity scores of the viper as well as its natural attacks, but retains its own Constitution, mental ability scores, and Hit Dice.
Evasion (Ex): If a yuan-ti ambusher that makes a successful Reflex saving throw against an attack that normally deals half damage on a successful save, they instead takes no damage. Evasion can be used only if the yuan-ti ambusher is wearing light armor or no armor. A helpless yuan-ti ambusher does not gain the benefit of evasion.
Spell-Like Abilities (Sp): At will- detect poison, speak with animals (snakes only); 2/day-cause fear (DC 13), expeditious retreat. The save DCs are Charisma based, caster level 2nd.
Sneak Attack: As the rogue ability.
Stillness (Ex): Yuan-ti ambushers can remain perfectly still for hours, even days at a time without blinking or moving. This gives them an additional +8 to Hide checks when they have not moved for at least 1 round. In this trace-like state their body temperature matches the background and they effectively only age 1 hour every day allowing them to wait for creatures to pass by.
