Illusory Familiar [General]
Hey listen! Your familiar is nothing but light and sound, but it makes a fair companion. Don't expect it to hold anything for you.Prerequisites: Caster Level 1st, two Illusion spells knownBenefit: You gain a unique familiar known as an illusory familiar, a sentient persistent magical effect which is difficult to get rid of and smarter than your average familiar, but lacks any physical presence. An illusory familiar can look like any Tiny or smaller creature, even creatures which don't exist, though once chosen its appearance is more or less fixed, barring minor details. While it is technically a creature, it doesn't have any hp or HD, it uses its master's saving throws, and is immune to damage. If attacked, it has an AC of 10 + it's size modifier + it's highest mental ability modifier as its effective Dex modifier. It can be suppressed in an antimagic field, and dispelling it suppresses it for 1d4 rounds. Mage's disjunction destroys it until the caster can perform a ritual which takes 24 hours to return it. It has no skills of its own, though it uses your skill ranks, and only has mental ability scores as seen below. Because it has no physical presence, it cannot perform physical actions but may still make mental skill checks. Illusory familiars are intelligent and can speak the caster's languages.
Illusory familiars may have no substance, but they cannot pass through solid material. If entrapped in a space they cannot exist in, they are shunted to the nearest valid space. If the nearest valid space is over a mile away, they are destroyed as if they were struck by mage's disjunction. They have a hover speed (perfect) equal to the caster's land speed, and any movement speeds its master possesses. They do not eat, sleep, or breathe, and have normal vision and hearing. They can exist up to 1 mile away from the caster, and blip out of existence until it returns in range, as if suppressed. As you level the illusory familiar gains the following abilities.
An illusory familiar counts as a familiar for the purpose of pre-requisites, and scales with your caster level. It exists while you are unconscious, but not if you are dead. It does not flicker back into existence until you have been revived.
Special: Classes which gain familiars can switch out their usual Summon Familiar for an Illusory Familiar instead.

Int, Wis, and Cha: The familiar’s Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores.
Alertness (Ex): While a familiar is within arm’s reach, the master gains the Alertness feat.
Empathic Link (Su): The master has an empathic link with his familiar out to a distance of up to 1 mile. The master cannot see through the familiar’s eyes, but they can communicate empathically. Because of the limited nature of the link, only general emotional content can be communicated.
Because of this empathic link, the master has the same connection to an item or place that his familiar does.
Familiar Bonus: Like a normal familiar, an illusory familiar grants a bonus to its master. You can choose either a +3 bonus to any one skill, a +2 bonus to any one save, a +2 bonus to initiative, a +1 dodge bonus to AC, or +1 hp/level. Once chosen, the bonus cannot be changed.
Ability Bonus: The familiar increases one of its mental ability scores by +1 at 3rd level and every four levels beyond. While it has no skills of its own, its mental ability scores augment the skill ranks it gains from its master.
Master's Bond (Su): If the master is 5th level or higher, a familiar effectively gains telepathy out to 1 mile, but only between itself and its master.
Instant Recall (Sp): If the master is 9th level or higher, a the master can call its familiar wherever it is as a standard action. The illusory familiar appears at their side.
Scry on Familiar (Sp): If the master is 13th level or higher, he may scry on his familiar (as if casting the scrying spell) once per day.
