Anomy, the Unborn Despair[edit]

Monsters are sometimes born from intense feelings of despair, doom, and fear. Emotions such as these produce monsters like ghosts, demons, and all manner of nightmare. So it was that a moment of powerful despair and confusion took root in the world, but as it was to be born into realization as a nightmare made flesh its source of power was spirited away. An echo of a nightmare remained, unable to exist but unwilling to let go. It formed into the ghost of a fiend-to-be, not even possessing a body but carried within the hearts of all those who have rejected hope utterly.

Level: 1st

Binding DC: 16

Special Requirement: Yes

Legend[edit]

During a time of great trouble, the world was plagued with an event which brought thoughts unto action and life to concepts. Love and hate, joy and sorrow, they formed spirits and demons that haunted the realm. The event was orchestrated by a great evil who manipulated events to give birth to a horror of hopeless nihilism and despair who hated life and all that walked upon it, but as its plan came to fruition the seeds of evil that were planted were whisked away and the ritual ended abruptly. Yet the hate and sorrow persisted, the nugget of madness clinging to life as the event faded away. Now Anomy haunts the hearts of men, striking madness and evil within those who lose hope and cease caring.

Special summoning[edit]

Must either be evil, or have experienced a great tragedy within one's past that led them to a period of hopelessness.

Manifestation[edit]

It is said that each summoning is different for each binder, for there is a moment of emotional pang as a tragedy from one's past plays back vividly within the mind of the binder. It seems as real as living through it, yet there is always one key difference; at the end there is always the cloaked figure of Anomy waiting there to pick them up. Wrapped in black, tall and imposing, with a bone white mask barely resembling a face and a breathe of uttercold Anomy appears very much the picture image one has of death. It offers you a chance to throw the pain away and embrace a purpose, a purpose of bring fear, chaos, and death to all until they too understand the pain. The binder merely needs to take his hand, and embrace his madness.

Sign[edit]

A thin black smoke seems to waft away from the binder's body, and they have bony growths, usually on their face or chest.

Influence[edit]

Some say Anomy is an edgy tryhard. Anomy can't deny the edgy part at least, taking a nearly comical stance on being grim and snarky, which rubs off on its binder. When in the throes of battle, the binder is filled with an irrational joy at all times no matter the circumstances.

Granted Abilities[edit]

Embrace Evil[edit]

If you didn't before, you radiate evil as a evil cleric of your level.

I Give You Despair[edit]

You can use crushing despair at will. Once you have used this ability, you cannot use it again for 5 rounds.

Joy of Despair[edit]

While bound to Anomy, you are immune to any effects which alter your emotions. Every time you injure a creature, you gain a cumulative +1 morale bonus on attack, damage, saves, ability checks, and skill checks, to a maximum of +3. The bonus decreases by 1 every round you fail to injure another creature.

Ow the Edge[edit]

Any attacks you make deal 1 point of bleedout which is not multiplied on critical hits. Even on the bludgeoning weapons, you're just that edgy. You are, however, incapable of dealing non-lethal damage when doing so.

Umbral Shadow of Black Darkness[edit]

As a standard action, you can turn into a shadowy mist. You are gaseous and incorporeal (but you are not able to pass through solid objects) and gain a hover speed (perfect) equal to your land speed. This lasts until the beginning of your next turn.

At 5th level it becomes a move action, and at 10th level it becomes a swift action.
