The paladin slapped him, and the gods agreed and smote him with divine lightning on the spot.
You entreat the gods or the forces of nature to side with you and strike your opponent down with your hand guiding them. Your next single successful attack roll (if it is made before the end of the next round) deals an additional +2 points of divine damage/level. This amount is not multiplied on a critical hit, but occurs even if the attack was absorbed by damage reduction or an effect which would negate the attack, such as a martial maneuver, a miss chance, or an immediate action spell. It would not apply if your attack roll would not have hit in the first place.
