Deludere, the Ghost Fox[edit]

Deludere is the lost spirit of a kitsune who delved too deep into illusions, and became unreal himself.

Level: 1st

Binding DC: 15

Special Requirement: Cannot be undead.

Legend[edit]

Deludere the wandering magician was a conman and trickster who employed illusions and sleight of hand to entertain, beguile, and fool thousands across his land. This trickster was no ordinary man, but indeed was a kitsune in disguise. Even when faced with trouble and danger on the road in the form of bandits and monsters, Deludere's mastery of illusion would always shine through and help him, to the point where sometimes Deludere forgot that his magic was nothing more than smoke and mirrors.

It was this growing confusion which led to confidence in his ability, then arrogance. He began growing proud and cocky, willing to take on any challenge, for nothing was beyond his magical abilities to warp reality as he saw fit. The world obeyed, fooled as he was, and so all was well for the kitsune.

But there were some things he did not account for. As he visited his next place he intended to beguile, a terrible random event occurred and the city was flooded with a threat Deludere had yet to face, the undead. Thinking them no more hazardous than your average monster, he struck forth with all sorts of charms and tricks, but his magic would not avail him against these mindless, life-seeking terrors. They homed onto his location without fail, and Deludere found himself surrounded.

But Deludere had forgotten his own magic was smoke and mirrors.

In a last gambit to save himself, he swore his magic would have him rise as a ghostly spirit, believing every word as he was torn to shreds. Perhaps some element of his illusions were real after all, for as he perished his soul did not pass on, and rose as a ghost, of sorts. Not on the prime, nor in the ethereal, but in the proper place for things unreal to go. Nowhere at all.

Special summoning[edit]

None.

Manifestation[edit]

The air grows colder and darker, as the sigil opens up a purple rift just above it, unceremoniously spitting out the half-eaten corpse of a kitsune before you. The body remains motionless, but a chilling voice gasps "Heeeeelp meeeee..." as the phantasmal shadows of a ghostly fox rise from its body.

Sign[edit]

You gain 1d8+1 fox tails, though the tails are in various states of decay and ruin, either having splatters of blood to being little more than a tailbone.

Influence[edit]

Deludere, unmade by these unstoppable mindless undead, cannot stand the sight of them. You gain the squeamish flaw, applied to undead. You do not benefit from a bonus feat.

In addition, you can never disbelieve that your own illusions aren't the real thing, no matter how fantastical. You are convinced, for example, your efforts to summon a dragon are successful and any disbelief on their part is merely some strange magical countermeasure.

Granted Abilities[edit]

Deception[edit]

You can use minor image at will, but only once every 5 rounds.

Fearful Senses[edit]

You automatically know when an undead creature is within 60 ft of you, even if they are invisible, though you cannot determine direction or distance. In addition you may use detect undead at will.

Kitsune Skillfulness[edit]

You gain some of the trickery of a kitsune, gaining a +4 bonus on Bluff, Hide, and Move Silently.

Play Dead[edit]

You can choose to fall prone and play dead as a free action, your body taking on a corpse-like appearance complete with wounds and lack of vital signs. Make a Disguise check with a +10 bonus against the target's Heal, Sense Motive, or Spot. Waking up from being "dead" is a standard action.

Steal Identity[edit]

You gain disguise self at will, and can even disguise as creatures that are much larger, smaller, or completely different shape than yourself for up to 24 hours (or until the binding ends, maximum Colossal and minimum Fine size). However, you can only change into the form of creatures you touch. The disguise includes all the appearances of the creature at the time of being touched, including clothing and wounds, and cannot be changed until you touch them again to update the image. As it is an illusion, you still occupy your normal space.
