As the wizard finishes his incantation, the enemy’s life force appears to be drawn forcefully from it in the form of a ghostly visage identical to its own. The soul is pulled into the caster’s waiting mouth, filling him with renewed health and vigor.
This spell initially functions as a targeted casting of trap the soul, except that instead of channeling the soul into a gem receptacle it instead draws the soul wholly into the caster. This not only prevents the soul from being revived until the caster is killed or destroyed, but also heals the caster 10 points of damage per CR of the target creature. The caster cannot be healed past their normal hit point total by this spell. Knowing the name of the creature devoured increases the DC of the spell accordingly in the same way as trap the soul.
Unlike a gem, the caster’s body has no limit to how many souls it can absorb through this spell.
