Ekbom was a jealous man who kept Faith's other potential suitors at bay by using his talents for mind-affecting magic to sabotage them. This spell made them forget all about her, but also served as an escape for Ekbom himself to make it through the darker days in school and, if only for a while, feel absolutely sure of himself.
The target of this spell must make a Will save. Success negates the spell entirely; failure causes them to become consumed with selfishness, concerned with their own safety and well-being above anything else regardless of their alignment or allegiances. They immediately prioritize the use of any spell, ability, or item that they can use to better defend themselves over other possible actions. Keeping themselves at full hit points, for example, becomes a top priority even if they are only slightly injured.
Each turn thereafter, the target is allowed another Will save, but any such successful saves only allow it to resist the selfishness for that round, after which it must make another regardless of previous successes or failures until the spell’s duration expires.
