Lumichorion[edit]

Lumichorion is a dangerous exotic substance which acts as both energy and matter, appearing to the macroscopic eye as a semi-solid or soliquid gel substance with strange properties and is extremely destructive to all things organic. It is radioactive, glowing with a pale green light, and when it comes in contact with organic material it causes the rapid degeneration of proteins and the conversion of carbon atoms into beta radiation and neutron radiation. The temperature around the lumichorion drops, and is highly conductive to electrical discharges. With extended exposure, it also renders its surroundings radioactive and brittle due to neutron radiation.

The exact means of its conversion, or why it reacts with carbon so strongly, it not known. Treat the substance as Darklight Ore for the purpose of indirect exposure from radiation. On contact it deals 2d6 points of untyped damage to any organic creature (even undead creatures), or 20d6 damage if submerged. Because it is sticky it remains in contact for 1d3 rounds after exposure unless it is manually scraped off.

How lumichorion was initially created is a mystery, but it is known the substance can be created. In rare cases organic creatures exposed to the lumichorion's radiation for extended periods of time do not come down with normal radiation pointing, but instead mutate and grow crystalline nodes in the body. These new organs produce additional lumichorion which the user is immune to its contact effect though they often still perish soon after from the radiation damage. The resulting corpse is reduced to radioactive slush, and the crystals are subsumed into the mass as a new pool of lumichorion.

Destroying lumichorion is difficult, but not impossible. Beyond time (as the substance has a half-life, converting its mass into hydrogen), lumichorion reacts poorly with Vitalized Livemetal. Equal masses destroy each other over the course of a year, leaving normal metal, hydrogen, and large amounts of heat and electricity.
