The mirrored ring of revival is always polished to a mirror finish, and looking into its shiny exterior shows yourself ever slightly distorted by the shape of the ring and the small area from which it covers. It is slightly cold to the touch. If one dies with the ring on and one's body is mostly intact, after 1 minute the ring vanishes and the user is restored to life as per raise dead. The ring is seemingly lost.
In truth what also occurs is that upon revival the ring travels to the plane of shadow and transforms into a copy of the wearer of opposite alignment and with a single overriding directive; find their original and slay them. They have shadow copies of all of the original's equipment, barring artifacts, and these copies are only corporeal and functional to the copy. This doppleganger will eventually slip free from the shadow plane 1d4 days after creation and will begin their hunt.
If they win, they are free of their compulsion and absorb the soul of the original. The original cannot be revived until the doppleganger is defeated. If they lose their body and equipment vanish into smoke and black snow which melts away. The doppleganger always has an instinctual knowledge of the direction of their original.
Prerequisites: Forge Ring, raise dead, simulacrum.
Cost to Create: 3050 GP, 244 EXP, 6 days.
