Moonshimmer Sand[edit]
Said to originate from the moon, to be the tears of the moon, and other fantastical origins the truth is actually still a mystery. Piled on rare and exotic beaches far from others, the sand seems to come from some yet undiscovered element within the rocks of these lands. Moonshimmer sand is prized for its beauty and its use in Zen Gardens, and is sometimes used as a useful adventurer tool.
Under a full moon, moonshimmer sand is as dull as normal sand, but in other phases the sand glows pale silver-blue with the strength of a candle. Under a new moon when the sky is darkest, it flares up to the brightness of a torch. It changes brightness even if not exposed to the sky, making it a useful method of telling time when deep underground. When on other planes, it tells time as per the plane it was harvested from, making it a useful clock to compare time with.
Moonshimmer sand goes for about 10g per pound, and 5 gp for a sample large enough to act as a candle or torch.
