Nachash, the Crawling Serpent[edit]

Once a lizard, it was cursed by a deity to crawl upon its belly for its crime of corrupting the plans of the divine. Now Nachash lurks, manipulating and twisting the whims of deities the world over.

Level: 4th

Binding DC: 21

Special Requirement: Must not possess cleric spellcasting.

Legend[edit]

It is said in some faraway realm, the land was shaped into a paradise by an ancient god of law and order. Within this garden, beings lived in tranquil harmony, so long as the laws of the land were held. Yet among them was Nachash, one of many of the speaking animals of this land, yet one possessed with a cunning mischief. It spoke to the deities' favored beings and convinced them to break the rules, and in doing so brought down punishment upon them and itself as well.

Cursed in this new form, that of the serpent, Nachash slipped away from the presence of the omnipresent deity to plot against him. And the only place to hide from omnipresence is within a place that doesn't exist...

Special summoning[edit]

Nachash hates clerics, and will not be bound to any creature with cleric spellcasting. However, non-cleric divine spellcasting (such as druid) is fine.

Manifestation[edit]

The air becomes warm and comfortable, and the smell of fresh natural air blows in. Before you know it, there is a tree in the room with you. Its leaves are perfect and without flaw, its fruit is bright and succulent-looking. There, within the branches, curls a dark green snake. It slowly lowers its head from a branch as it slithers out a surprisingly polite and trustworthy greeting.

Sign[edit]

You gain a snake's tongue. If idle, it will flick out of your mouth on its own accord.

Influence[edit]

Nachash desires to dismantle ordered religion by debunking and disrupting their dogma and introducing doubt and question. When given the opportunity to do so, you must try and antagonize or embarrass those in positions of religious leadership. Especially if in front of a crowd.

Granted Abilities[edit]

Beguiling Serpent[edit]

While binding Nachash, no force can compel you to tell the truth, bypassing effects such as zone of truth. You gain a +10 bonus on Bluff checks.

As a standard action, you can duplicate the effect of insidious suggestion. However, a successful save renders the target immune for 24 hours. Alternatively, you can use mass suggestion (subject to the same restrictions), but with a 5-round cooldown.

Fortune Telling[edit]

Serpents are infamous for their connections to divinations and fortune telling. You may use divination once per two binder levels you possess. You may also divine the immediate future, gaining a +4 luck bonus on any one attack roll, saving throw, or skill check as an immediate action. The latter function can be used once every 5 rounds.

Shake Morale[edit]

You can demoralize targets up to 60 ft away as a standard action using Bluff instead of Intimidate. Rather than become shaken, they take 1d4 daunt levels. The creature can take a standard action to reassure themselves, removing all but 1 daunt level (the last one goes away as normal after 1 hour). This is a language-dependent effect.

Shun the Divine[edit]

While bound to Nachash, you have SR 14 + HD against all divine spells. However, this applies even to helpful divine spells, and cannot be lowered.
