Phos, the First and Last Light[edit]

A single flash of light in the darkness, lost in a timeless plane, the strange nature of its existence in a non-existent world gave it a strange purpose of its own.

Level: 1st

Binding DC: 15

Special Requirement: Yes

Legend[edit]

There was a place which, paradoxically, did not exist. Some suspected it to be "the plane of vestiges", even though such a thing does not exist. Its presence was never detected, its contents never discovered. It was only "found" through the complex and arcane math of the wizards who studied planar theories, reasoning that such a plane must exist to stabilize their theories on the multiverse.

And so it was with great difficulty they made strange relics and devices for detecting this non-plane, attempting to find its secrets. The greatest of these tools was a device which would send a pulse of "living light" to explore its depths in the greatest darkness of space, and hopefully find presence of the plane existing. The experiment was run, and the light shot forth... and was not seen again. No reflection, no data, nothing.

Soon, the project was scrapped. The theories were altered, and new math was produced to make sense of the world.

If only they knew... they succeeded. In a plane with no light, no time, no matter or energy, and indeed nothing within... there is a single shaft of light shooting forth into infinity, never reaching an edge or interfering with anything. It exists for eternity, and was the only moment of time, of existence, this universe had experienced or shall ever experience again.

Special summoning[edit]

Phos must be summoned in total darkness, with at least 10 ft on all sides without obstructions (excepting the ground).

Manifestation[edit]

In the darkness, there is a brief flash of light. And as soon as it exists, it is gone.

And yet within the dark, a presence is felt. And upon a silent agreement of terms, you bind the vestige to your form.

Sign[edit]

Your eyes and mouth glow with a warm inner light. It is enough to cause you to glow like a bullseye lantern when your eyes or mouth are open.

Influence[edit]

Phos cannot remain still. Whenever it is possible, you must take a move action (not merely a 5 ft step, though you can choose to simply move 5 ft as a move action). Whenever you are unable or unwilling to move, your jittery nature gives you a −4 on attack rolls, ability checks, and skill checks for the round.

Granted Abilities[edit]

Flare Ray[edit]

The pact-bound creature can emit a bright flare of light out of their eyes and mouth as a standard action. It is a ranged touch attack out to 60 ft which deals 1d4 points plus their Charisma modifier in light damage to a target as a ranged touch attack. They gain an additional 1d4 damage at 3rd level, and every two levels beyond (5th, 7th, etc).

Flash in Time[edit]

The pact-bound creature can move even when they shouldn't. Once every 5 rounds, the pact-bound creature can use an immediate action to take a move action. They can even do this if they otherwise cannot as long as they are conscious, and can even do this in places time doesn't flow, such as within the effect of another creature's time stop spell, or if they are otherwise impeded or bound. They must still succeed on any checks required to get through terrain, and may make a single grapple check in order to break a grapple and move.

Shining Guard[edit]

The pact-bound creature is partly made of light, and naturally resist it. They cannot be dazzled or blinded from light-based effects, and has resistance 2 per level against light damage.

Speed of Light[edit]

The pact-bound creature embodies some of the speed associated with light. They gain a +10 bonus to all their movement speeds, and the effects of the Run feat. They never become fatigued or exhausted, nor do they take non-lethal damage from overland movement, through they may still suffer fatigue and exhaustion from other means.
