R'aga[edit]

A race of frog-like plants, with an affinity for water and sticky, poisonous tongues.

Personality[edit]

R'agas are very diverse from individual to individual, but common traits may be recognized in them. They are kind of reclusive, but not cold, nor xenophobic. R'agas are usually pacific, preferring a quet lifestyle and gathering the products of lakes and small creeks, such as plants, small fish and bugs.

Physical Description[edit]

The r'agas varies in appearence, but they share some traits. They appear as humanoid frogs, tall and slender, wearing light clothes. They tend to prefer colourful fabric, which mirrors their habitat. R'agas sport a varied complexion: they can be light blue, white, pale yellow, green water or light pink, sometimes monochrome, but more often in a patchwork. Their most notable traits are the water lily which sprouts from their head, both the flower and the large leaf, and their long, usually green, sticky tongues.

Relations[edit]

Their are quite unknown and keep to themselves, but those that come in contact with r'agas find out that r'agas are usually quite welcoming.

Alignment[edit]

Neutrality is the prevalent alignment among r'agas, with a prevalent leaning towards good rather than evil, a result of their cultural pacifism.

Lands[edit]

They live in aquatic environments, usually in damp forests. They build small settlements, usually a combination of floating and submerged houses in ponds and lakes.

Religion[edit]

Ragas cultivate a personal spirituality, focusing on pacifism and self-control, occasionally giving praise to spirits and gods of nature.

Language[edit]

They speak Sylvan as their first language, and in second place they learn Common, Elven, Gnome, Goblin or Aquan.

Names[edit]

Their voices are croaking like the call of frogs and toads, and their name names reflect that by using a lot of cr- sounds accompanied by vowels.

Racial Traits[edit]

Sapblood's traits
A sapblood creature possesses the following traits (unless otherwise noted in a creature’s entry): no low-light vision (unless specified, not immune to mind-affecting spells and abilities, but gains a +2 bonus against such effects, not immune to poison, sleep effects, polymorph, and stunning, but gains a +4 bonus against poisons and stunning effects, immune to paralysis. Susceptible to magic and effects that affect Plant creatures, like repel wood, but not to effects that affect plant objects (like warp wood). Sapblood creatures are proficient with their natural weapons, if they have any, whatever armor or weapon appears on their entry and with whatever weapon, armor and shield their classes give them proficiency with. They have light fortification.Sapblood creatures may eat and drink (and so benefit from consumables such as potions), but they can forgo heterotrophic nutrition by remaining in the sunlight (and, if their physiology allows them, rooting) for, at least, the same time other creatures need to rest (usually 8 hours per day). This allows them to avoid needing sleep and food, but they still need to drink water. Casters still need to rest to regain spell slots.
  • +2 Dexterity, -2 Constitution: While very agile, their health is quite shaky.
  • Plant (Sapblood): Their exact origin is unknow but their are quite clearly either hyperspecialiazed plants or frogs with plant-like traits.
  • Medium: As a Medium creature, a r'aga has no special bonuses or penalties due to its size.
  • R'aga base land speed is 30 feet. Swim 20 feet. They gain a +8 racial modifier to Swim checks and may take 10 even when rushing.
  • Jumping Legs: They gain a +2 racial bonus on Jump checks and may ignore the maximum height when doing high jumps.
  • Paralyzing Tongue (Ex): Their tongue is kind of poisonous. R'agas may produce a stronger toxin and coat their tongue with it. They may do so once per day, plus an extra use every 5 HD they possess. Activating the toxin is a free action and the poison activates on their next successful attack. The victim must make a Fortitude save (DC is 15 + 1/2 HD) or be mildly paralysed for the next minute, resulting in a -2 to all checks that involve movement (attacks, physical skill and ability checks, reflex saves and initiative), as well as suffering a -10 ft to all their speed (or -5 ft if already under 20 feet). See the Sticky Tongue section for details.
  • Pond Camouflage: They gain a +2 racial bonus on Hide checks which becomes a +4 in acquatic environments.
  • Sticky Tongue: R'agas possess a long, retracting tongue. They may use their tongue as a grappling hook. The tongue used a grappling hook has a length equal to 15 feet-4,5 meters. The tongue sticks to surfaces and they may retract themselves along it as a free action which does not provoke attacks of opportunity. They have a racial bonus to Use Rope checks made with their tongue equal to their HD. The tongue counts as a grappling hook, rope and hookshot for the purpose of requirements.
  • Toxic Skin (Ex): Their skin is mildly intoxicating, resulting in a -2 to grapple checks made to grapple them. Biting and swallowing creatures must pass the save presented in Paralyzing Tongue if they want to avoid its effects and spit the r'aga out immediately, but only if the r'aga activate its ability. The effect lasts on the bitten r'aga for one minute. A creature immune to poison is immune to this effect.
  • Automatic Languages: Sylvan
  • Bonus Languages: Aquan, Common, Elven, Gnome, Goblin
  • Favored Class: Monk
  • Level Adjustment: +0
  • Effective Character Level: 1

Racial Options[edit]

Feats[edit]

Pathfinder[edit]

In Pathfinder games they have also a +2 to Wisdom.

Alternate Racial Features[edit]

  • Arboreal: R'agas that have abandoned the pond live on top of trees. Because of this, they lose their Swim speed and instead gain a 20 feet Climb speed, which also gives them a +8 racial bonus to such checks and may take 10 even when rushing.
  • Cunning Predator: R'agas that have abandoned the way of peace have sharpened their minds, resulting in a loss of sapience. Their +2 to Wisdom is replaced with a +2 to Intelligence.
  • Thorned Tongue: Some r'agas, perhaps due to an evolutionary push for violence, develop tongues that work like weapons. They gain a feral weapon with the statistics presentend below, treated as a whip for any purpose (and they count as having proficienty with whips for requirements). They may also use their tongue as a grappling hook and perform grappling maneuvers with it. The tongue used a grappling hook has a length equal to its reach as a whip (usually 15 feet-4,5 meters). The tongue can grab things and they may retract themselves along it as a free action which does not provoke attacks of opportunity. They may pull grappled enemies with opposed Strength checks or a Strength check opposed to their Use Rope check. They have a racial bonus to Use Rope checks made with their tongue equal to their HD. The tongue counts as a grappling hook, rope and hookshot for the purpose of requirements. This trait replaces the Paralyzing Tongue and Sticky Tongue traits.
  • Tracker: Wood-dwelling r'agas have losed their toxic skin. Instead they have learned how to track down their prey. They gain the Track feat and treat the Survival skill always as a class skill. They gain a +2 racial bonus to rolls made to track with Survival. This trait replaces Toxic Skin.
  • Wood Camouflage: Due to their skin of duller color, they are more apt at hiding in woods. They gain a +2 racial bonus on Hide checks which becomes a +4 in woodlands. This trait replaces Pond Camouflage, but counts as such for requirements.

Subraces[edit]

Leaf R'aga[edit]

Almost the opposite of pond r'agas, leaf r'agas are a subspecies which has moved from a watery environment to the woods, learning how to hunt, stalk and kill any prey or invader, forgoing forever the peaceful ways of their cousins. They are less clorful, and their skin is usually a shade of green or brown, sometimes a combination of shades in spots. They are otherwise similar to pond r'agas, but dont grow a leaf and flower on their head. Instead a short mantle of leaves grows on their shoulders. They underwent a physical transformation, which gave them enhanced intellect, a thorny tongue, the ability to climb, track and hide among bushes and trees. This changes altered these r'agas forever, yet they still remain reclusive and distrustful of strangers, which they happily attack when trespassing, with almost no warning.

To play as a leaf r'aga, you may take the Arboreal, Cunning Predator, Thorned Tongue, Tracker, and Wood Camouflage alternate racial traits. Thorned Tongue
