Raps, Guardian of the Diamond Crown[edit]

The loyal guardian of the queen of diamonds, this fiendish ice knight's loyalty transcended past death in the form of a shade of its former being.

Level: 4th

Binding DC: 21

Special Requirement: You must have a loyalty or friendship to at least one person to the point of defending them with your life.

Legend[edit]

Tales tell of a terrible fiendish warrior with a heart colder than the stygian abyss. It mercilessly traversed the land, crushing all those in its way, until a chance occurrence placed it at the hands of defeat in a situation it could not fight its way out of. Its life was spared as an act of mercy by a silver tongued woman. Something about her was different, and it melted the warrior's frozen heart, for they were kindred spirits. Through this, the knight found companionship, swearing fealty to her. From that point on, they would build a kingdom forged of the woman's ambition and the knight's strength, and a great and terrible kingdom it was. The woman became known as the Queen of Diamonds, with her diamond crown, and the knight stood dutifully at her side.

But no kingdom lasts forever, and their aggression bore anger in others. In a moment of vulnerability, a group from within their own ranks began a coup de etat against the throne. The knight fought bravely to protect its queen, but their opponents had brought weaponry the likes of which they had never seen. In a blast of powerful light, the knight was stripped of armor, flesh, and bone, thus ending its service.

For many, this would simply be the end of the story. But for the knight whose loyalty was frozen in time regardless of what would happen, and the strange and eldritch power fueling their opponents' attacks, this was not the end. The brighter the light, the deeper the shadow, and the blast of light was so intense it cast a shadow upon reality itself in the knight's passing. But the body and soul were far too damaged to become undead or a ghost, and so the shadow became... something else. Something which remembered its loyalty, remembered the bloodshed, and remembered little more than pure love and pure hate.

Special summoning[edit]

You must trace the seal of Raps in snow or ice.

Manifestation[edit]

The ground ices over and quickly covers the entire room in thick rime, cold fog billowing up from the sign. Within the fog, a kneeling armor-clad figure stands, tall and thin, bearing a tower shield and a long polearm made of ice. A raspy hissing voice, barely audible, asks if the binder swears loyalty to the queen of diamonds. Answer yes, or the vestige will depart. Upon agreeing loyalty (regardless of if it's truthful or not), the knight known now only as "Raps" will parlay and deal with you.

Sign[edit]

Your hair turns white and your body cold. Your voice seems quieter than normal and raspy, though it has no actual effect on the volume of your voice.

Influence[edit]

If you swear to perform an act, you must go through with it, regardless of the consequences or the morality of the situation.

Granted Abilities[edit]

Bladestorm Burst[edit]

You may project either a line (120 ft long) or a 20 ft radius burst centered on you of freezing cold ice as a standard action. It deals 1d6 points of cold damage per class level, and affected creatures are staggered for 1d4 rounds. A successful Reflex save halves the damage and negates the staggering. You may use this ability once every 5 rounds.

Dark Soul[edit]

The trauma of light has taken its toll. While bound to Raps, you take +50% additional damage and a −2 penalty on saving throws against any [Light] effects. On the other hand, you gain See In Darkness, allowing you to see through any darkness (even supernatural darkness) as if it wasn't there.

Icewalking[edit]

This ability works like the spider climb spell, but the surfaces the binder climbs must be icy. It is always in effect.

Loyal Guard[edit]

You may assign one willing creature within touch range to guard as a standard action. From that point on (until you assign a new target or the binding ends), you constantly have the effect of status and shield other on the creature you are guarding with unlimited range and duration, as long as you have line of effect. Line of effect is broken across planes.

Slidestep[edit]

As a swift action, you can move up to your move speed, so long as it isn't over difficult terrain. You slide over a rime of ice which forms under your feet, allowing you to also employ icewalking with this form of movement.

Stygian Equipment[edit]

With the same action it takes to equip weapons or armor, you may form weapons and armor out of stygian ice. You are protected from the baneful effects of stygian ice, and gain cold resistance 10 whenever wearing any type of armor or using a shield made of stygian ice. These ice weapons, shields, and armor melt if out of your possession for more than 1 round.
