We must consult the only one who knew about this, the ancient hero Red Lion.
You call upon a spirit within history who has passed on long ago, binding them to a focus object which can allow the bound spirit to speak through whoever holds the object in their grasp. This can permit communication with the long dead who perished ages ago from time or disaster, as there is no time limit on how far back one can go. Instead, one must either know the creature to be revived through direct knowledge or have sufficient knowledge of the creature in question. How difficult it is to find enough information on a creature varies, but for famous and well known legends it is a DC 30 bardic knowledge or Knowledge History check (or other appropriate check), +1 DC for every 50 years they have been last heard of. A unsuccessful check causes the spell to fail.
On a successful check the spirit is called into a focus item, often an amulet, statue, or other object between Diminutive to Huge size. In addition, the subject’s soul must be free and willing to return. If the subject’s soul is not willing to return, the spell does not work; therefore, a subject that wants to return receives no saving throw. On contact with said object, a creature must make a Will save (DC 10 + 1/2 HD + highest mental ability score of the called spirit), or fall under the influence of the spirit becoming its medium. In this form the spirit may use the medium's senses, speak through the medium, and act as if the medium had been subject to magic jar. Once contact is broken, the possession ends. If the spirit is malicious, it may force a second Will save against a possessed subject and be able to control them completely for 24 hours, after which the medium gets another save to resist control. A successful save on either of these will result in immunity for 24 hours for the creature.
Besides being used to gain the advice of the long lost, the focus can be used as a focus component of a true ressurection spell. If done, the creature may be revived regardless of the time passed or if the creature had perished from old age. They appear at the age of the caster's choice next to the focus, revived but with a flaw. They always arrive with the Anchored Object flaw tied to their focus object. If their focus object is destroyed, they are slain instantly and cannot be recalled even by this spell for a year and a day.
The focus object can be anything, but always has a base hardness of 20 and 40 hp. It shows up under detect magic as Strong Conjuration magic, as does the revived creature.
Focus: A specially prepared object worth 5000 gp or more.

Summary | Bring a soul back to a medium, even if it would otherwise be unable to be recovered through most means. With the medium, it is possible to revive those who have been dead for an extreme time, or those who died from old age. + |
