Returned[edit]

A returned is a dead person who returned from the afterlife is a spectral form to complete a task/kill the one who murdered him/continue living. At first the returned is much like what he was in life, and seem to share his old weaknesses but as he grow inn power he become more like a true ghost.

Making a Returned[edit]

A returned is a good infiltrator, is very tough and can dish out some impressive damages. However he does not possess powerful spells like a wizard and will not do well in a social situation.

Abilities: A returned need a good charisma score as it affect the DCs of his ability.

Races: Any races can become returned.

Alignment: Any.

Starting Gold: None.

Starting Age: Special, the returned start at the age he died and does not ages anymore.

Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the Returned.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A returned is proficient with all simple and martial weapons and with medium, and light armor and shields (but not tower shields).

Ghostly: While he is not totally incorporeal, a recently returned form is ghostly, not totally in this world. A Returned gain the following benefits.

  • All the weapons he wield and armor he wear gain the ghost touch enhancement. These items are bound to the returner, vanish if he die and return if he is resurrected.
  • All attacks made with non-magical weapons or natural attacks have a 20% miss chance against the Returned.
  • If killed the returned will disperse, leaving no body behind.
  • The returned gain the undead type with the Dark-Minded and Unliving subtype.
  • The returned may use his charisma modifier for the purpose of calculation his hit points instead of his constitution.

Old Life: You gain a free social archetype.

Poltergeist (Sp): A returned may use ghost sound and mage hand as a swift action as a spell-like abilities at will.

Spirit-touch (Sp): A returned is capable of delivering devastating attacks of spiritual energy. He may as a touch attack, deal 1d6/level typeless damages as an attack action. The returned may channel his spirit-touch through a melee weapon.

Ghostblast (Sp): A 2nd level returned may now apply his spirit-touch ability to ranged weapon or use it as a ranged touch attack within medium range.

Phase Out (Su): A 2nd level returned is able to phase out for an innstant, allowing harmful blast of mundane or magical energy to pass through him harmlessly, this ability grant the same benefits as evasion except that it apply even if the returned is denied his dexterity or wear medium or heavy armor (or any other mundane condition).

Eidolon (Su): A 3rd level returned radiate an aura of good luck as he watch over the soul of his allies. Any allied creature may reroll any failed saving throw or skill check as an immediate action within 30 feet of the Returned. The Returned may suppress or active this ability as a free action.

Phantasmal Magic (Sp): A 3rd level Eidolon may use the following spell-like abilities at will: phantom steed, silent image, ventriloquism, open/close and dancing lights

Vaporous Body (Ex): A 4th level retuned body become vaporous and difficult to interact with (although his ability to interact with the physical world is intact) all attacks made with a non-magical weapons ornatural weapons have a 50% miss chance againist the returned. In addition he become immune to critical hit and may use obscuring mist as an immediate action centered on himself every 1d4 rounds as a spell-like ability.

Mettle (Ex): A 5th level returned gain mettle as a hexblade.

Phantom Breath (Sp): A 5th level returned may now project his spirit-touch as a 30 foot cone as a standard action (no saves allowed).

Fantome: A 6th level returned lose the unliving subtype (but keep his constitution score), may cast passwall at will (although no 'door' are created, the retruned just phase through matter) and invisibility as a immediate or move action as a supernatural ability and is always under the effect of pass without trace.

Assured Return (Su): A 7th level returned no longer lose a level after being resurrected.

Old Memories (Su): A 7th level may warp at will. He may count a single place (usually his place of death or where he spent his childhood or in fact any place that was important to him in life) as a unqiue anchor point that only he can access and that cannot be destroyed.

Power Beyond The Grave: A 7th level returned may inflict a single level drain to any creature hit by his spirit-touch.

True Incorporeality: A 8th level returned may as a full-round action gain the incorporeal subtype (and may change back with a immediate action) and gain a flight speed equal to twice his base land speed with perfect maneuverability when incorporeal, and equal to his base land speed with good maneuverability when not.

Possession (Sp): A 9th level retuned may use magic jar as a full-round action at will. However any unwilling recipient may make a will save each round (DC charisma-based, in-combat or in situation of mortal danger) or hours (if it not the case) to expel the returned. Note that possession does not require any container as the returned enter 'bodily' into his target, all physical items the returner carried fall on the ground as he use this ability. The save DC is charisma-based.

The Returner: When a 10th level returner is slain, he return 1d4 days later unharmed. Only through a reasonably complicated task a creature can prevent the return of a returned. Here are some example:

  • The returned's original body is burned and the ash scattered over the sea.
  • The returned's childhood home is burned to the ground.
  • The returned is slain by a holy weapon.
  • All of the returned's extended family is killed.
