Sibyl, the Unblinking Abyss[edit]

They say when one looks into the abyss, the abyss looks back at you. For one unfortunate oracle, she found herself unable to look away no matter how far she fled, right until she fled out of the world itself.

Level: 3rd

Binding DC: 20

Special Requirement: Yes

Legend[edit]

A great oracle known as Sibyl once brought the kingdom of an ancient land into a time of glory and power. Using her omniscience, the king became a great leader, conquering other nations, quelling strife, and even preventing disasters before they struck. The kingdom grew strong, powerful, and in due time arrogant. Having taken the world of man, the king sought to find foothold within the heavens themselves and challenge the gods. Sibyl found herself in opposition to this idea, for her sight saw all things on earth, but the whims of the gods was beyond even her.

The king, of course, could not take no for an answer. If the gods could not be scryed upon and their secrets unfolded, then perhaps they could find the weakness of the gods indirectly. It was said that in times before man, the gods fought and defeated a great evil who knew the secrets of how to defeat the gods, a true threat to their hegemony. They tossed its corpse into the deepest depths of the abyss and buried it away. If the corpse of this ancient evil could be divined, then perhaps it would reveal the secrets on how to defeat the gods themselves.

And so did Sibyl peer into the abyss. And in the abyss, an ancient being peered back. It was a terrifying force that Sibyl could not comprehend, and she ran, but the terror followed her. Whatever she saw down there haunted her from that point forth, and quickly drove her mad. All of her predictions from that point on, while correct, only sowed chaos and ruin, and soon the kingdom crumbled as its foresight was broken.

Sibyl the mad vanished soon after. It was said she was to flee to the one place the ancient evil could not follow her.

Special summoning[edit]

In order to summon this vestige, you need a dark insight score of at least 3.

Manifestation[edit]

The smell of incense fills the air, obscuring your sight in hazy smoke. You make out the vague body of an invisible female form in front of you whose only visible part is her blank white eyes, and a angry red glowing third eye in the center of her forehead. She will request you not ask what lies beyond. One must close one's eyes to seal the deal, for the only way forward is through blindness.

Sign[edit]

An angry red unblinking third eye appears on your forehead, and your normal eyes are sealed shut for the duration of the bind. This does not affect your sight, but you can never avert your gaze or shut your third eye.

Influence[edit]

Sibyl has you study anything you observe for far too long. Perception checks take a minimum of a standard action. Whenever someone is making a perception check, you must also attempt one.

Granted Abilities[edit]

Dark Gaze[edit]

You possess a gaze attack which affects all creatures within 60 ft. They must make a Will save or become shaken for as long as they can see you, save renders them immune for 24 hours. In addition, as a standard action within 60 ft, you can force one creature to save or become shaken regardless of their previous saving throw.

Rather then becoming frightened if a shaken creature fails its save, a shaken creature becomes confused for as long as they can see you.

If a creature has dark insight, they apply their dark insight score as a penalty against saves against this effect.

Determine Future[edit]

You can target one creature within 60 ft as an immediate action, and cause it to re-roll any die roll. You can use this ability once every 5 rounds.

Divining Eye[edit]

You gain the following spell-like abilities, usable at will: augury, detect chaos/evil/good/law, detect magic, detect thoughts (a successful save renders target immune for 24 hours), and object reading as a psi-like ability. You also gain divination but only once per time you bind this vestige per 24 hours.

Escape the Darkness[edit]

Whenever exposed by something that would give you dark insight or when afflicted by any compulsion effect, you can choose to become frightened instead for 1 round. This bypasses any immunities you otherwise would possess.

Resist the Darkness[edit]

You add your dark insight score as a bonus to AC and saves against aberrations, creatures with the abomination subtype, and any creature capable of granting dark insight, up to half your binder level.
