Tome of Sublime Insight[edit]

This mystic book is of great value of initiators capable of using martial maneuvers. Study of the work requires one week. Upon completion, the initiator gains a +4 bonus to their initiator level and learns 4 maneuvers from any discipline, without needing to meet prerequisites. The bonus to initiator level allows the initiator to choose maneuvers which they would not normally have at their level (for example a 11th level warblade, normally which has 6th level maneuvers, could select four 8th level maneuvers). The initiator also gains experience points sufficient to place him or her halfway into the next level of experience. Non-initiators without maneuvers are permanently drained of 1d4+1 points of Constitution and must atone (see the atonement spell) in order to gain any further experience. Non-initiators with spellcasting or spell-like abilities who reads even a single word of the work must make a Will save (DC 20) or suffer insanity (see the insanity spell). Initiators with spellcasting are safe and are given the first result. Except as indicated above, the writing in a tome of sublime insight can't be distinguished from any other book, libram, tome, or so on until perused. Once read, the book vanishes to parts unknown. Even if found again, the same character cannot ever benefit from reading the tome a second time.
