When the Temple of Nine Swords fell and the methods of the martial masters spread into public domain, it would inevitably crossbreed with other pre-existing groups. Those of the Shadow School found home in the ranks of thieves and assassins, and their supernatural elements began to attract those with a talent of magic as well. It turned out this combination of backstabbing and spellweaving was more than traits for your typical arcane trickster. The cult of the Squalid Queen (as they are called, for their original name is long lost) employed a great deal of supernatural backstabbing and began working their already profane poison arts into the martial sword magic of others. Co-opted to the benefit of the poison-worshiping cult, the Blighted Serpent discipline was born. It was the ultimate combination of supernatural and extraordinary skill with the elements of death and suffering with the cruel nature of those who would employ such tools.

In these modern times, the original religious worship associated with this discipline has been stripped away and whitewashed. The discipline is no longer home for the always evil, but it still carries all the stigma of poison use and as such practitioners are often neither lawful nor good. Some have tried to turn the arts to more beneficial means, but in the end the art of the disease goddess does what it does best; to harm, injure, and create suffering.

The weapons associated with the Blighted Serpent discipline are those which mimic the poisonous tools of nature, with its toxic stingers, envenomed fangs, and stinging tentacles. They use all types of piercing weapons, and flexible weapons such as the whip and spiked chain. The skill associated with Blighted Serpent is Craft Poison (Int).
