Transform the caterpillar-like catertaur into flying moth-like beings. 3 0 Good Poor Good Good Other Other

Catertaur Metamorphosis[edit]

When a Catertaur obtains certain biological needs, including a heavy diet, the right environment, and possibly other factors, they become able to enter the second phase of their life. They begin wrapping their body in strands of silk, first forming shimmering scales and then turning into a plated cocoon. At the end of their transformation, they transform into a flying moth-like creature, their true adult form.

Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the Catertaur Metamorphosis.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: The catertaur metamorphosis is proficient with all simple weapons, all martial ranged weapons, and whips, and are proficient with light armor and shields (but not tower shields).

Class Advancement: At 2nd and 3rd level, the catertaur metamorphosis gains new class features as if they gained a level in a previous base class of their choice.

Improved Create Silk (Ex): The catertaur metamorphosis can generate more silk faster. They can produce up to 5 ft per HD in silk each day on a permanent basis, and can create temporary short lived webs at will. This acts as a net which they are proficient in, and it disintegrates after 10 minutes after released from the catertaur metamorphosi's grip.

Improved Poison (Ex): The catertaur metamorphosis's poison ability improves, gaining 1 additional damage per class level to the poison (maximum +3 at 3rd level). In addition, the poison may not be applied to weapons as a swift action, though the usual cooldown limit applies.

Natural Armor (Ex): The catertaur metamorphosis begins to wrap their body in layers of silk, which harden into flexible scale-like armor. They increase their natural armor bonus equal to their class level. A creature without a natural armor bonus is treated as a +0 bonus.

Acidic Poison (Ex): The 2nd level catertaur metamorphosis creates a more volatile acidic poison. Their poison is now both acid and poison damage, and a creature is not resistant or immune to the damage unless they are resistant or immune to both (taking the lesser value).

Acid Resistance (Ex): At 2nd level, the catertaur metamorphosis gains an amount of acid resistance equal to their HD + 5.

Poison Cloud (Sp): The 2nd level catertaur metamorphosis unlocks some fey magic related to their poison ability. They can create an effect like fog cloud. All creatures within are subject to the poison of the catertaur metamorphosis. This counts as a use of their poison ability for the purpose of cooldown, and the cloud lasts for the same duration as the cooldown (1d4 rounds). They may use this ability once per Con modifier per day (minimum +1), uses the poison's DC, and counts as a 3rd level spell. This form of poison is inhaled instead of contact. This magic is considered cast from a fey for the purpose of interacting with feats and abilities.

Metamorphosis: At 3rd level the catertaur metamorphosis finally transforms. At any point they can wrap themselves up in a cocoon over the course of 8 hours, and from that point spend 7 days wrapped in a shell. They are helpless, but the cocoon has hardness 8 and 150 hp. If the cocoon breaks early, the melted catertaur dies prematurely. However if they are permitted to complete their transformation they exit as a much different creature.

They gain a +2 bonus on Intelligence, and become Medium sized creatures (tall). They gain two legs and a large pair of wings, giving them a movement speed of 30 ft, fly 50 ft (average) though they are always capable of hovering. They gain two claw attacks as secondary natural weapons that deal 1d4 points of damage and they no longer have a cooldown on their poison ability.

They resemble humanoids, whose lower half of their body is plated in a carapace, and large moth-like wings. They lose the tauric trait, but retain the bonus to Ride and the tail attack. They also access several spell-like abilities as a result.

They may count themselves as both fey and members of their original type when beneficial.

Spell-Like Abilities (Sp): The 3rd level catertaur metamorphosis unlocks some additional fey magic which unlocks based on their overall HD. This magic is considered cast from a fey for the purpose of interacting with feats and abilities. The caster level is equal to your character level and the saving throw is based on your highest mental ability modifier. Each ability is able to be used 1/day.
