Expanded Summon Monster[edit]

Sometimes you wish your summon monster spell had more bite and versatility without going crazy about it. Sometime you wish to summon hordes of minions or some long duration sentries. The basic list of summoned creature can also become a bite stale over the time I guess. Well this varraiant rule offer just that.

Spell Change[edit]

As a part of this variant rule the spell itself gain more options

Summoning Multiple Creatures[edit]

The basic summon monster II to IX gain the ability to summon more creatures of a lower level table. You can use a summon monster spell to summon 1d3 creatures of the same kind from the previous summon monster level table, 1d4+1 creatures of same kind from the table two levels lower or finally 5 creatures creatures of same kind from the table three levels lower.

By example a wizard could use summon monster IV could use it to summon one lantern archon, 1d3 hell hound, 1d4+1 lemure or 5 fiendish raven.

Summoning Weaker Creatures For Longer[edit]

Similarly to summoning multiple creatures, the summoner may use her summon monster spell as if it was up to three level lower for the purpose of the creatures she can summon. If she does so however her summon stay for much longer.

If she treat it as one level lower the spell duration become 1 minute per level. If she treat it as two level lower it become 10 minutes per level and if she treat it as three level lower it become 1 hour per level.

Versatile Alignment Creatures[edit]

Creatures on the summon monster table with the fiendish or celestial creature template now always match the alignment descriptor, if the spell is casted as [evil] they have the fiendish creature template and if it casted as a [good] spell they have the celestial creature. You always choose the descriptor of the spell when you cast it independently of your own alignment. Of course if you are a cleric or a similar class you are limited in which spell descriptor you can cast as normal.
