Mephistopheles, Lord of the Eight[edit]
Mephistopheles is the inventor of Hellfire and the Lord of Cania, the frozen eight layer of the Nine Hell. It is unsurprising to find him of all people making deal with Witches. He is more than willing to deal for his patronage, usually for the soul of the Patron Witch in exchange for earthly power. While a lot of devils get into making such deals they typically are poor choices for PCs because of their tendency to cheat them. However unlike lesser devil, Mephistopheles is playing the long game. He does not attempt to provoke an early doom for his customers, allowing them to thrive long (and often immortal) lives, knowing they will bring less skilled customers who will get themselves killed with not help from him.
Mephistopheles is a good choice for a PC seeking a classic patron. He offer a good mix of powerful blasting spells and tricky spells with straightforward and useful Granted abilities.
Special Requirement and Rules[edit]
Like many other devils, Mephistopheles is willing to make a deal for power. He will typically ask for the Witch's soul, which condemn her to the Nine Hell after her final death. However he might be willing to deal for a powerful item, dangerous task or just about anything worth his patronage (up to the DM). If the Witch is Lawful Evil he will be even more willing to deal in tasks, since he know the odds he own her soul already is quite high. Mephistopheles will never refuse to deal for your soul, unless doing so would be bad, which to be fair it rarely is.
Mephistopheles always honor his deal as intended, unlike other devils he is no fan of cheating potential repeat customer and want to build an image as a trustworthy individual. If a witch is powerful and loyal enough, he might make her a cohort and servant in the Nine Hell rather than turn her into fuel.
Spell Granted[edit]
This Patron grant the Witch the following spell, she add those spell to her spell list but she must prepare them normally.
- 1st— Bel's ambush
- 2nd— eyebeams
- 3rd— firestar
- 4th— persistent invisibility
- 5th— solar window
- 6th— Ishara's fiery ring
- 7th— Stromberg's frozen court
- 8th— hellmouth
- 9th— nine acre fire
Granted Abilities[edit]
Dream of Cania (Ex)[edit]
The Patron Witch visit Cania, the frozen hellscape in her dreams. She gain Cold Resistance equal to half her class level and is constantly under endure element (cold only).
Play with Hellfire (Ex)[edit]
The Patron Witch gain Hellfire Spell as a bonus feat.
Friends in the Right Places (Ex)[edit]
Non-hostile creatures with the [devil] subtype are one step friendlier towards you than normal (to a maximum of Friendly). This is only an 'initial attitude' – if you take any actions that harm or offend them, their attitude will adjust appropriately.
Alternate Hexes[edit]
