Remember those crappy summoning tables that gave you pathetic options and ended up doing a disservice to would-be summoners everywhere? Of course you don't, and we don't blame you. No one likes summoning the SRD way. So now there's a spell to help you summon an encounter of monsters and not feel bad about yourself for doing do.

This spell may be prepared and/or cast at any spell slot of level 2 or higher, with its effects varying as follows: upon casting, you summon a creature (or creatures) with a total combined Challenge Rating equal to twice the spell level at which this spell is cast -2 and bind them indelibly to your will for the spell's duration. You are, however, limited to summoning a total number of creatures equal to your caster level, and the combined Challenge Rating of creatures you have summoned at once can never exceed your caster level -2 (even with multiple castings). With each additional casting of the spell, you summon only enough monsters to get back to the normal limit created by your caster level. This spell may not be used to summon creatures with templates; attempting to do so would only result in the summoning of the base creature pre-application of templates.

As an example, a 10th level caster may use the spell to summon one creature of CR 8 (or lower, if desired), two creatures of CR 6, four creatures of CR 4, eight creatures of CR 2, or something in between. See the section on Encounter Numbers on page 49 of the Dungeon Master’s Guide in order to determine how many creatures of a particular Challenge Rating you are able to summon with this spell.

Summon creatures remain until slain or dismissed or until the duration of the effect that summoned them has expired. Any creatures summoned act immediately after your turn is over when they are summoned and each round thereafter. Because they are under your mental control, they attack opponents you designate (using any attack options you wish regardless of any personal risk to themselves) and serve to the death.
