A Soulknife that is actually useful. It seems to be closer to the barbarian than the fighter, and the soulblade gets many key abilities that are missing from the knife, like built-in archery support (no prestige-class nonsense), ability to use weapon materials, and damage reduction bypassing abilities. They get a few damage dealing abilities, but most of them come late, except for Psychic Tear, which requires a good mental ability. Overall, nicely done.

Soulknife was one of my favorite SRD classes ever, but I always knew something was missing and that the class didn't keep up in the right ways. This fixes all of those. I love this idea!

A major improvement from the soulknife. Having to split enhancement bonuses between armor and weapons hinders the classes potential. And the mind armor idea is solid. Also, like that the soul blade gets to chose what type of weapon they create, instead of being forced to use swords.

Balance[edit]

Me and Cid agree that this should probably have full BAB instead of moderate. Soulsplitter is great for non-two weapon fighter builds, but an alternative needs to be built for those that are. What happens if you already have deflect arrows needs to be described when you get it and more. For fluff, elans and githzerai seem the most likely to take this class, elans already being self-sufficient and githzerai having their usual fluff. This pretty much sums up what was said over IRC. --Havvy 02:58, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

For a class whose primary class feature is "has his equipment all the time", having to split your enhancement bonus between weapon and armor seems a bit odd and underwhelming. Is the intent to get them to pick up magic armor or bracers anyway? It is also somewhat unclear whether you have to split the bonus up among your two mind blades if you TWF, or if you can elect to grant them different qualities rather than making them identical. Also, it seems odd that they can't generate a shield, but they can generate everything else. Is this intentional?
Some clarity here would be nice, but also a better advancement scheme. The only one I have off the top of my head isn't necessarily clean, but I think it should be functional. Instead of +1 every two levels, give 3 gear slots and add +1 to two of them every two levels. So at 2nd you'd have +1/+1/+0, and at 4th you'd have +2/+1/+1, and at 6th +2/+2/+2, and so on. It gives you enough to keep up one weapon and armor, as well as an additional weapon or shield (assuming shields get added in). It's slower in absolute terms than the current scheme, since it ends at +7/+7/+6, but I think it's better distributed than the current setup. - Tarkisflux Talk 04:34, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
I attributed the lack of shield and the fact they share bonuses to be due to the fact that this class is fighter level. Doing as you said would place the class into rogue-level territory, I think. When manifesting multiple weapons, they weapons have the same statistics, so theoretically, one could have two +10 short swords. --Havvy 14:37, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
They don't get scaling bonus damage sources aside from equipment, don't get status effects on their strikes aside from equipment (except the 1/round thing at 17, which isn't very much), and don't have any utility abilities outside of skills and what they buy on gear. This class is in no danger of going to rogue level anytime soon, regardless of how their equipment breaks down. - Tarkisflux Talk 15:49, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

Support for Soulknife Feats[edit]

Would it be reasonable for the mind blade ability gained at first level to count as both Form Mind Blade and Shape Mind Blade for the purpose of preqs? . -Amdillae (talk) 22:50, 10 March 2015(UTC)

Proficiency Problems[edit]

The Weapon and Armor Proficiency needs to be changed. It seems to be a copy-paste error, as there is no proficiency with the mind blade needed. Additionally since a mind blade can be made of any weapons you are proficient with, and that you are only proficient with simple weapons, you cannot make the iconic 'longsword' mindblade. This should be addressed. --Leziad (talk) 19:46, 24 September 2021 (UTC)

Fixed. -- Eiji-kun (talk) 03:43, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
Probably should add the Short Sword for TWF purposes. --Leziad (talk) 03:50, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
Forgot that wasn't a simple weapon. -- Eiji-kun (talk) 04:11, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
