The Wanderer in the Dark[edit]

In the depths of space, a gokiburi research station went missing. However, they say you can still hear the phantom transmissions of its occupants who were lost in the void of space.

Level: 6th

Binding DC: 25

Special Requirement: Yes

Legend[edit]

Research station Eta Vulpeculae II was a gokiburi space station which orbited a gas giant in one of their settled systems, dedicated to the harvesting and experimentation of an unusually large amount of kafkaite found in the giant's rings. This station was home to the best and brightest minds in the empire, pushing the limits of faster than light technology and making several breakthroughs in the field of science. However, it was experiment 358.7-256.6 which proved disastrous for the station and all those aboard. They had created a massive kafkaite sample, and were testing energy levels on the material at a never-seen-before rate, engaging a positive feedback loop on power generation to break physics and create more energy than they should have. As the station slipped into a warp bubble, its final transmissions confirmed only one message.

"...infinite zero obtained."

The massive warp bubble they had created collapsed in a flash, taking the station, and a large chunk of the gas giant's atmosphere and ring, out of reality and to parts unknown. No warp trail was detected, and for all intents and purposes, the station had never engaged in a change of movement. It and all of its inhabitants were simply gone.

But every so often... one is said to hear ghost transmissions emitting from near where the station should be, if it were still in orbit. Simply rumor and errors in detection equipment, every time. The messages are too distorted and nothing useful can be gleaned.

Except for the date of transmission. It is always up to date and correct.

Special summoning[edit]

You must be able to see the sky. If you can see the night sky, or otherwise see stars, the binding DC drops by 2.

Manifestation[edit]

You hear the strained and distorted sounds of what seems to be a radio transmission in your head, with the current date and time but a garbled and haunting message in whatever language you speak. Though never understood, the tone denotes an SOS or emergency alert. Responding positively to the message causes a shining trapezohedron the size of a grain of sand to appear in your palm, and rapidly grow until the same size as you before disintegrating into dust in the wind.

Sign[edit]

Everything you do appears slightly "blurred", as if you were out of focus, your voice was distorted, and even other senses such as tactile and taste are "off" and "wrong".

Influence[edit]

You gain a keen appreciation for the sciences of all kind, and want to engage in experimentation and study of unknown phenomena. If approached with an unknown device or event, you will stay to at least attempt to learn about it and make knowledge or spellcraft checks as appropriate, even if situation calls for attention elsewhere.

Granted Abilities[edit]

Alien Translator[edit]

You are capable of speaking the language of any xenotheric or xenoblooded creature, as if under the effect of tongues.

If your setting has radio technology or a similar ability, you count as a radio for the purposes of detecting and responding to these technological communication methods.

Reality Fatigue[edit]

You radiate an aura out to 10 ft which improves the use of magic and supernatural abilities (including your own) and reduces the potency of environmental effects as if in the area of energized kafkaite. Magic and supernatural abilities have +2 to their effective level, while environmental effects are halved when applicable (including damage and penalties). You can exclude a creature from this effect as a free action. Those affected take on your "blurred" appearance.

Starchart[edit]

As long as you can see the sky, you always know exactly where you are and cannot be lost, and you are immune to the effects of maze if done under the open sky. In addition, you can know the names of any celestial body you are able to observe, as long as your civilization has discovered and named said celestial body.

Unreality[edit]

As a move action, you can slip into or out of a state of unreality. You gain a 20% miss chance against all effects, even force, positive, and negative energy effects, as you simply cease to exist. However, in turn, you suffer from a 5% chance your own actions in the round will be negated as you cease to exist at exactly the wrong time.

Warp Bubble[edit]

Once every five rounds as a standard action, you can move at nigh infinite speeds. This duplicates the effect of teleport (self only plus your maximum load), except it does not count as a teleportation effect, and you are limited to places you can move, so you cannot fly unless you have a fly speed, nor teleport into a sealed room. You do not provoke attacks of opportunity for this "movement".
