Vestige Becomer[edit]

A vestige is bound to the world through an anchor, a soul binder. Is it technically possible to change such anchor? Not to be bound to a person, but to be bound with an object? A plane? A concept? Perhaps it is even possible to be anchored by oneself? No vestige I ever bound answered these questions, although most are not a chatty bunch.
—Unknown Binder, True Vestige, Myth or Reality?

Most if not all binders study the vestiges they bind — creatures and people forced into non-existence, clinging to experiencing the world they are denied through binding themselves to a soul binder. Very, very few binders, however, seek to emulate the vestige, as they exist more or in less in a state worse than death. Fewer even discover the secrets of the True Vestige, a potential being capable of occupying the state of non-existence of a vestige but retaining the ability to exist materially.

In order to achieve such a state, the vestige becomer must take her steps carefully on the path of unreality, for a single misstep can have her end up like one of the vestiges she binds. A vestige becomer first partially turns unreal, then binds herself, allowing her to stay on the material plane, using herself a a paradoxical anchor. As time goes on, she takes more and more traits of a vestige, until she either fails or attains her ultimate goal.

Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the Vestige Becomer.

Soul Binding: At each vestige becomer level, your soul binding ability improves as if you had also gained a level in the binder class. Your vestige becomer levels and binder levels stack for the purpose of determining your bonus on binding checks, the effectiveness of your vestige-granted abilities, your ability to bind higher-level vestiges, and the number of vestiges you can bind. You do not, however, gain any other benefit a binder would have gained.

Path to Unreality (Ex): A 1st-level vestige becomer starts her twisted journey to become a vestige. As a result, she slowly starts losing her grip on reality. If she is permanently killed (such as having her soul destroyed), she instead becomes a minor vestige, short of the true glory of the vestige becomer.

At 1st level, she no longer leaves a body after she dies; even her equipment vanishes in the ether. She cannot be brought back through the raise dead spell; however, she returns with no level loss and all her equipment if she is resurrected.

At 3rd level, she no longer leaves any tracks or scent in her wake, making her impossible to track, even by scent.

At 5th level, she becomes immune to all divination effects. All divinations used against her indicate she does not exist instead of outright failing.

At 7th level, she ceases living; she becomes immune to any effect which requires a fortitude save unless it could also affect an object.

At 9th level, she ceases to obey the laws of physics; she cannot take damage from any mundane hazards. She gains the incorporeal subtype, except she keeps her strength score and natural armor, and she is capable of interacting with objects as if she was corporeal whenever it would be beneficial to her.

Unreality (Su): At 1st level, a vestige becomer gains the unreality trait of the dreamborn subtype.

At 8th level, this ability improves; the miss chance from unreality increases to 50%.

Self-Binding: Upon taking your 2nd level in vestige becomer, you lose the ability to bind a single vestige, as you are effectively always binding yourself. You cannot be made to unbind yourself under any circumstances and you cannot make a bad pact with yourself.

Vestige Ability: At 2nd level and each even level afterward, the vestige becomer gains one vestige ability from the list below:

Bend Space (Su): As a move action, you can replicate the effect of improved dimension door. As a 1-round action, you can replicate the effect of greater teleport.
Bend Time (Su): As a move action, you can replicate the effect of time hop; you may use it on yourself as a swift action. Once you have used this ability, you cannot use it again for 5 rounds. Additionally, you are always hasted.
Dreamtouched (Su): You can use dream and nightmare as supernatural abilities at will.
Lifedrain Aura (Su): All hostile creatures around you lose 1 hit point at the beginning of your turn, and you gain fast healing 1 which stacks with other sources of fast healing.
Mimetic Form (Su): You gain change shape, allowing you to turn into any medium or small animal or humanoid.
Manifest Unreality (Su): As an immediate action, you can open a pocket to unreality, causing any attack or abilities targeting you to not affect you as if you had total cover. Once you have used this ability, you cannot use it again for 5 rounds.
Plane Hopper (Su): You may use plane shift as a supernatural ability at will. Once you have used this ability, you cannot use it again for 5 rounds.
Shake Off (Su): You gain the ability to use heart of a champion. Once you have used this ability, you cannot use it again for 5 rounds.
Spectral Fingers (Su): You can deliver touch attacks at a range of 30 ft.
Twisted Form (Su): As a standard action, you can take a grotesque from of your choosing, as per the pseudonatural form feat. Your form is a reflection of your vestige self.

All these abilities are vestige abilities, and are thus affected by feat and class features which affect vestige abilities.

Vestige Power (Su): A 3rd level vestige becomer chooses a single spell from the cleric, druid, or sorcerer/wizard lists of 4th level or lower; she may use it a as supernatural ability. She must still pay any expensive material component and XP cost of the spell, and the duration of her vestige power becomes 1 round/level if it was any longer. Once you have used this ability, you cannot use it again for 5 rounds. This ability is a vestige ability for all intents and purposes.

At 6th level, she chooses another; however, she may now pick a spell of 6th level or lower.

At 9th level, she chooses another; however, she may now pick a spell of 8th level or lower.

True Vestige: Upon attaining 10th level in the vestige becomer class, you achieve the power of a 'true vestige'. As a free action, you can ascend to your vestige state, ceasing to exist utterly. In this state, you cannot be targeted by any effect, although you also become unable to interact with the world. You may use this ability even if you would not normally be able to take such action, such as while under the effect of an imprisonment spell. After 24 hours, you may return to a material existence, appearing anywhere on the last plane you were on or the material plane, whichever you choose, completely unharmed with all your equipment.

You are now outside the cycle of life and death. Whenever you would be slain, you just cease to exist and return to your vestige state, allowing you to come back to life in 24 hours if you so choose. The only way to put you down for any significant length of time is if someone casts the wish spell after you are slain, preventing you from returning to a material existence for a year.

Additionally, as a vestige, you no longer have a truename, making you immune to any truename-related effects.
