Yseam the Maintainer[edit]

Hidden in the depths of space and time, an unfeeling analytical mind waits and watches. When its influence is felt upon the world, everything will be reset as it should be.

Level: 8th

Binding DC: 25

Special Requirement: Yes

Legend[edit]

The most terrifying thing about Yseam the Maintainer is that unlike other vestiges, Yseam exists.

It doesn't exist now. Or here. Technically. Rather, it exists in the future to come. It represents a bottleneck in the expanding wave of time, an inevitability which cannot be stopped. Its actions in the future send waves of inevitability and fate both forward and backwards in time, like a ripple in a pond. It states it exists, and yet it cannot yet exist, and so it manifests its will as a vestige, a small fragment of its will.

And its will? It is something of an enigma in itself, but Yseam is herald of a mission to "maintain". What, precisely, it maintains is unclear. What is known is that it is both a creator and destroyer, obliterating things with one hand and restoring them with another. Some suspect it plays a long game of adjusting cause and effect to some uncertain and unknown end. Until its true motive is known, it may simply be a thing who has gone mad.

What is known is that Yseam is not living in the traditional sense. It is clearly a machine, and built for a purpose. Perhaps the creators of the machines are yet more terrible than it.

Special summoning[edit]

You must summon Yseam under open sky.

Manifestation[edit]

As you draw its sigil, the sky seems to darken. A blanket of shadow quickly expands further and further, and you realize it is because something titanic is covering the sky, approaching. With a deep thunderous rumble, what appears to be a vast upside-down futuristic city descends upon you, stopping just below the cloud level. It does not speak, but on completion of the pact, a beam of light shoots down upon you, briefly blinding you. When your sight returns, the mechanical nightmare is gone.

Sign[edit]

Your skin begins to show mechanical wiring, grids, and electronics just under the skin, in wounds, and other places. Your eyes glow ever so faintly.

Influence[edit]

You become very analytical and become concerned by excess. You seek to cut things to a pragmatic level and seek control over activities whenever possible.

Granted Abilities[edit]

Destruction[edit]

As a standard action, you may call down a single hyper-accelerated tungsten rod out of orbit, crashing into your opponents with massive force. Make a ranged touch attack against a creature within Long range (400 ft + 40 ft/level). You deal 1d6 points of magic piercing damage/level to the target. In addition, there is a 5 ft wide 100 mile tall cylinder where creatures take half that damage, with a Reflex save for half. Thus, a creature hit by the attack actually takes damage from both the ranged touch and area effect.

This effect comes from the sky. If you do not have line of effect to the sky, the projectile will hit the ceiling. If it deals enough damage to break the obstruction, it will continue on to its target; otherwise, it stops.

You can pull a more powerful version as a 1-round action. This one ends in an additional 20 ft radius explosion at point of impact in addition to the cylinder effect, and the damage die rises to d10s. However, once you use this, you cannot use this or the normal version of destruction for 1 minute.

Machine Code[edit]

You are able to speak with any Construct (though most are mindless and don't have much to say), and you are able to program bots as if you had a number of ranks in the skill equal to your binder level + 3.

You gain the power to rebuke (as an evil cleric) constructs. You retain the same pool of rebuke attempts per day no matter how many times you bind or unbind the vestige. When the binding ends, any constructs under your control become uncontrolled.

Restoration[edit]

You emit a ray of light out to Long range (400 ft + 40 ft/level) that allows you to revert the effects which occurred in a previous time period. Used against creatures, you can revert up to 1 round/every 2 levels of events. Against unattended objects, you can revert up to 1 minute/level of events. Against landscapes, you can revert up to 1 month/level of events. The casting time is equal to the amount of time you are reverting (from the point you started casting), so reverting a death which occurred 3 rounds ago requires 3 rounds of focus. You must make Concentration checks as if you were casting a 9th level spell. And yes, that means months of focus for reverting landscapes, if you so choose to do so.

Single targets can be selected by this ability (for creatures and objects), or an area up to 1 mile wide can be selected for landscapes. Events are returned to the desired number of rounds ago, removing status effects, memory, damage, and even death. Consumed items, spells, and abilities remain consumed upon restoration. Creatures and attended objects get a Will save to negate the effects.

The cooldown on this ability is equal to the time spent in focus (even if you failed to maintain concentration), so it is used sparingly. In addition, the binder cannot use restoration on the same target or area more than once per day. Also, like Destruction, the effect comes from the sky and is blocked if access to the sky is denied.

Stellar Travel[edit]

The binder becomes immune to the rigors of space, including the lack of air, radiation, and pressure damage. He can extend this immunity to up to 1 creature per level within 30 ft. The binder can fly as if under overland flight. By concentrating, he can also bring up to 1 willing creature per level with him on his flight (the creatures do not control their own flight paths), as long as they remain within 30 ft.

If the binder enters outer space or another void, his speed becomes uncapped. After 1 minute of constant travel, the binder's speed becomes the speed of light. In this state, the binder and his enhanced companions do not age, eat, sleep, or breathe. They can do nothing but move, and have no presence or effect on the world until they fall out of luminal travel.

Temporal Ripple[edit]

The binder's very presence distorts time. The binder is immune to the effects of time stop (allowing him to move in other people's time stop effects) and slow, or similar effects. They may still benefit from haste.

As a standard action, the binder can use time hop (self only) at will.
