Check out the new TOToM pages[edit]

You can find them in their own section on my userpage here. I decided I'll let you and Tark edit them a bit before I upload them.

Funny Clip[edit]

Thought you might find this interesting. Would have just sent it to you on IRC, but you aren't there atm, and I'd have forgotten by tomorrow :-P Can delete this when you've clicked the link if you like, or keep it here for reference, either way works. --Ghostwheel 12:59, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Temporary Admin[edit]

You wanted to delete some ununsed page and categories? I've given you admin rights so you can go do that. Gonna have to take them away shortly though (well, I don't have to, but I haven't talked to anyone else about this so I'm going to), so enjoy it while you got it :-). - Tarkisflux 05:03, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

Categories purged. Would be nice to keep the administrator tag, but not really necessary for what I'm doing. In a related note, there are a lot of unused templates. We should look into why they are unused, and get rid of the ones we really aren't using. --Havvy 05:58, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
Every few months I look into the unused templates and get rid of the ones that actually need getting rid of. Surgo 16:00, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

General Feats[edit]

Are you sure [General] should be removed from feats? It's a standard descriptor. --DanielDraco 07:35, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

It's not a useful type on it's own and there are no special rules or references for it. Since it's basically the type that means you don't have any other types and it's added automatically to feats that don't have any others, yeah, there's no reason to set it on feats. I think it's in the preload instructions as well. - Tarkisflux 07:48, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
As TarkisFlux said. It is assumed that General is the default type if no type is set. Otherwise, if there is a type, it just adds to clutter. And yes, the preload even says not to put General in there.

Siege Subtype[edit]

There is a Siege (3.5e Subtype), it just does not show up in the glossary page. --Franken Kesey 20:13, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

We aren't using categories for subtypes. We have a SMW property for it.

User Skill[edit]

There is one other user skill called Craft Xeno- (3.5e Skill). Though it is not formating correctly in the glossary. --Franken Kesey 22:58, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Thank you --Franken Kesey 23:32, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Winter Cleaning[edit]

Hello there! I am sorry to have realized to late what exactly the Winter Cleaning is. So could you please tell me what, apart from being incomplete, the problems were with Domains of Divinity? I did not plan to expand on it, but could a campaign setting with a completeness rating of 2 not have been let standing (indefinitely) until someone came along to expand on it? Or was there another issue with it? Thanks for telling. Daranios 10:53, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Dungeons and Dragons Wiki:Winter Cleaning is for removing articles that aren't up to the standards in quality or usability. Generally, people don't come around and pick up abandoned campaign settings (proof is in the fact that over the 5 years of paleowiki, dungeons, and this wiki, nobody has yet to adopt an incomplete campaign setting. --Havvy 01:24, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
Sad thing, though. Daranios 15:55, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

This Is A Note[edit]

The Template:Racial Size does not account for races starting with vowels. --Ganteka Future 07:05, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

This has been dealt with. - Tarkisflux 07:12, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

What's SMW[edit]

You have removed the Categories:Book published in... with the comment "SMW Replaces". Could you please tell me what SMW is? How would I go about finding all books from 2003? Does it have something to do with the Semantic Search that has newly appeared on the left-hand side? Thanks for telling. Daranios 16:17, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

SMW refers to Semantic Media Wiki, and it is the collection of article tags that appear at the bottom of page and functions for them. In this case, you can do and get a lovely automagical list without additional categories on the pages. Since we're working with SMW instead of DPL, we prefer properties over categories (you can output them in tables if you want on top of searching by them, search them for partial matches, and generally do more useful stuff with them), and are replacing straight categories with them where possible. - Tarkisflux 16:45, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
We will probably do the same with all of the "Books by <Publisher>" cats as well actually, since the Publisher property does the same thing. - Tarkisflux 18:15, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
Some of them have months also, and I'm not sure how that interacts with the ask query, so to be safe, I'd so Publication Date::~*<Year<. Otherwise, what Tarkisflux said is correct, as usual. --Havvy 19:34, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
Is there/Will there be any how-to-do explanations visible for beginners/people who know nothing about code (which is almost true for me :-)? Daranios 19:03, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Blank Page[edit]

What happened to this page since you edited it? And were any of my other pages affected? :-/ --Ghostwheel 08:46, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

For example, this page was also blanked. --Ghostwheel 08:52, 3 March 2011 (UTC)
I put a no-display tag in the author template in a bad place. Surgo removed it already, though I need to put it back in a better place still. Should be fixed already, and shouldn't happen again.- Tarkisflux 18:03, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Thanks.[edit]

Thank you for fixing my homebrew signature. I have yet to make any base classes or flaws, but I might someday. Also, do you think it is a bad idea to mix traits with feats on the signature? The Dire Reverend 08:49, 5 June 2011 (UTC)

To keep it to six boxes, I generally keep like things with like. Once people see the article at hand, they can decide whether they want it or not. I'm pretty sure people aren't looking for 'feats' or 'traits' or whatever in navboxes unless they want a specific feat or trait or whatever in which case they can remember the name when they see it. Everybody else is thinking "This looks cool. *click*".
Also, no problem with the navboxes. Those are easy, especially with the SMW List Query template. --Havvy

Some wiki stuff[edit]

Firstly, the cite template doesn't seem to be working properly for anything other than old MoI citations. I figured you'd be the one to mention this to.

Secondly, I've gone through your 'help wanted' stuff and fixed up much of it. Hope you like it!

Lastly, I think that the heading on the Help Wanted section doesn't accurately reflect how it's used - quite often, people (c.f. Ghostwheel) put articles as Help Wanted when they are mechanically complete, and thus, totally fine for the nav. Thus, I propose the heading on that be amended slightly. - MisterSinister 21:30, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

I think TarkisFlux saw it and got to it. (Thanks Tark!) --Havvy 01:39, 20 June 2011 (UTC)
He did. - MisterSinister 02:16, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

Missing Link[edit]

Am I going nuts? I can't see the links to the preloads to make homebrew. You know, "click here to add your own spell" and somesuch. Where'd they go? -- Eiji-kun 01:25, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

Aarnott changed the template; I see the same thing; Please wait one moment. --Havvy 01:26, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

4e[edit]

Sure i'll be happy to send you if any 4e stuff is amiss- I just came back on Dnd Wiki after a year of not editing and found we've relocated (again), to a new site- this one! I'm alot happier with it and I hope I can help out with some 4e stuff if I find anything wrongLiosrakia 21:29, 2 July 2011 (UTC)

 • the "make a new campaign setting" from 4e_Campaign_Settings page doesn't exist- needs to be created.
 • the pages 4e_Ritualsand 4e_Quests have add ritual pages- however, the add/edit button doesn't work properly:instead of trying to make a new page, it always tries to edit a preexisting page: So if I try to make a new page (for instance, Quest1), it'll say:
Create Form:4e Quest: Quest1(4e Quest)

Error: no form page was found at Form:4e Quest.

Since 4e Rituals was the easiest for me to change at the moment, it has been fixed. I'll get the other two working next time I'm on. --Havvy 07:07, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
4e Campaign Settings is fixed. - Tarkisflux Talk 16:58, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
4e Quests is fixed too. Someone should make some of those :-) - Tarkisflux Talk 17:51, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
Hi it's me again. I have added a quest (yay!) to the 4e section Tarkisflux :D. Anyway, that's not what this is fore- after you click the now fixed 4e campaign setting button, it instead links you to the "add new 3.5e campaign setting" page instead. Lol =P. Just thought you might want to know.Liosrakia 04:35, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
Nevermind I fixed it. It was just a linking issue, not an actual redirect issue. Silly me =P Liosrakia 04:40, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
Hi this is Liosrakia, I was just wondering if you might be able to create a power template (from Add_New_4e_Power that doesn't include the help text. I know this is kinda a stupid request, but I figure for other people later on (and me now) who want to add powers, it's a lot easier to have a version without the help text if you've already memorized the main points. Liosrakia 01:15, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
Done. --Havvy 12:26, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

Summaries[edit]

Those summaries you wanted? Yeah, the ones I'm adding aren't showing up on the table. What am I doing wrong?--Change=Chaos. Period. SC 21:00, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

Sometimes it takes a refresh of the page for it to update. They are showing now. --Havvy 21:25, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

Blatant abuse of admin authority[edit]

I saw the move and deletion of my shapechanger feat, and under the description the reason was "Blatant abuse of admin authority". I am a little confused, and was just curious as to what you did. The Dire Reverend 10:02, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

He didn't delete it, he moved the page to add a space between the page name and the identifier. He accidentally left a redirect behind, and deleted that with "Blatant abuse of admin authority" as the reason instead of "Redirect left from page move". So it's still there, it's just elsewhere due to typo correction. - Tarkisflux Talk 16:26, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

Shortcuts[edit]

Hello! As Surgo does not seem to be active in day-to-day activities, I would like to ask you, if you maybe know how to deal with shortcuts to other wikis. I had it posted at Surgo's:
As the Wikipedia-shortcuts are working so fine, would it perhaps be possible to also introduce such shortcuts for the Forgotten Realms Wiki - at the moment, w:c:forgottenrealms is used in several articles for http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/ - and possibly Spelljammer Wiki - w:c:Spelljammer is used at the moment for http://spelljammer.wikia.com/wiki/. Of course I could change the used shortcuts into the links, but being able to use the shortcuts would be very convenient. Thanks! Daranios 12:15, 2 June 2011 (UTC)

Actually, now the next shortcut used in the old wiki has appeared: "Eberron" was used so far as a shortcut to the Eberron Wiki. It would be great if these shortcuts could be realized! Daranios 18:38, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
Daranios 09:03, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
Unfortunately Daranios, only Surgo has access to make interwiki changes at this time. It requires direct server access to update SQL tables, and only he has the keys to that at present. There is an extension we can install to allow any admin to update them (which I just found after seeing your ping here) that I've asked Surgo to install, but he's in the middle of a move and probably won't be able to get to it for a month. Once that's in though, it should be pretty easy for any of us to set up interwiki links. - Tarkisflux Talk 18:39, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
Ah, all right. So I will just act as if the short-cuts existed, looking forward to some time in the future when this will be put into practice. Thanks! Daranios 11:44, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

Multi-Problems[edit]

Hey Havvy, Major probs here.

1. How can i create Psionic Constructs (Expanded Psionic Handbook) without having to go overboard with the Psion-Killer in the back of the psionics book? I want something that is reasonable to create at lvl 6-9.

2. What are some realistic ways to kill 24 Kobolds, 1 kobold Champion, and a Basilisk who has sunglasses over his eyes to keep his Gaze in check, as well as unknown amounts of kobolds inside a cave Warren? My group consists of all lvl 4's: Scout, Cleric, Fighter, Sorcerer, Wizard, Rouge (at lvl 5 a Vampire Rouge), and a Druid with a Wolf companion. Keep in mind we have to pass a CR 4 Old Fort to get there that is filled with Hob Goblins, Bugbears, Ballistae, and a Baby Blue Dragon. We went around it last time but had some Hob Gobs harrass us all night long, got one and turned him in on charges of attempted murder.

Firestorms0 03:20, 19 April 2012 (UTC)

I'm the wrong person to go to for constructs. I detest them personally. As far as the cave of kobolds, if you can communicate with them, diplomacy to get them to attack the goblin fort and then kill them when they are finished is probably the easiest way, though probably evil. Having the right arsenal of spells against low level creatures such as color spray and glitterdust help. The druid should probably prepare a couple entangles and the rogue and fighter should focus on taking out the kobold champion first. If you can't get past the fort without finishing off everything there, then finish off everything there. Sounds like a day of experience gain if done right. Just make sure that whomever has the proper knowledge checks (arcana, engineering, local for hobgoblins I think) make them, and prepare spells that you have to target their weaknesses. Whatever you do, avoid taking on all 24 kobolds simultaneously. They will get an average of one critical hit per round. Any area debuffs are extremely potent against this number of enemies. Distractions can also help. If you can get half of the kobolds away from the area, you can do a lot of damage while they are gone. If you can be sneaky, poison their food supply. Also evil though. Basically, there are many ways of getting through. Use the situation to your advantage. --Havvy 05:43, 19 April 2012 (UTC)

Fantasy and role-playing game[edit]

Hello there! You've deleted the articles Fantasy and Role-playing game, because they are Wikipedia copies and broader in scope than this wiki itself. However, lots of articles link to them, and D&D articles transported (and adapted) here from Wikipedia (e. g. because they may be in danger of deletion there) will have those links in the future. Having these red links is not nice, in my opinion. And a few people might also be interested in the information there.
So I think the perfect solution would be to change each link into a link to the Wikipedia article. If you or someone could do this, or create a bot for it, that would be great. That is and will be a lot of work, though.
The third-best solution would be to remove all the links. No information for those interested and also quite some work, now and in the future.
The second-best solution would be to have the articles here, in my opinion.
What do you think? Daranios 18:14, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

I was told that my usual means of mass text replacement is broken, so I have no means to do so. I don't think it is beneficial for any of us in the slightest if we contain wikipedia articles that are beyond the scope of the wiki, and anybody who understand what dnd-wiki is also understands what wikipedia is, hopefully. I could see having a DnD specific take on the terms though, which could very well link to the wikipedia articles. I couldn't imagine myself writing those articles though. --Havvy 02:21, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
In that case I see two small benefits in keeping the two articles here, at least as a starting point: No red links and those few people who want to follow the links get sensible information. What's the benefit of not having the articles? (Besides, there's another example which is partly comparable: Most author and company articles are also broader in scope than D&D. But they are important for D&D, so they are useful.) Daranios 19:24, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

Spell Links[edit]

Why are you removing the spell domain links? They are quite helpful. For that matter, why were the class spell list links removed? --Franken Kesey 00:30, 18 May 2012 (UTC)

They can (and should) be added automatically by the spell template. --Havvy 02:32, 18 May 2012 (UTC)

Ratings Update[edit]

Following the recent wiki vote on ratings granularity and display, all old ratings can be updated to make use of "love / like / neutral / dislike / hate" instead of the old values. If you would like to update your ratings, you can find a list of them at Category:Legacy Rating Havvy. When you update a rating, be sure to delete the "|OldRating=True" part. - Tarkisflux Talk 18:04, 15 July 2012 (UTC)

Dead File Links[edit]

<Havvy >If you can think of any caveats for not going through all the pages in that category, and doing a regex replacement s///, put it on my user page. (And I'm not using Special:ReplaceText)

It might be best to run a rest on the page and see how many file links you find first. If one, remove it. If two or more, leave it for manual looking at. Else you potentially pick up live links, and I'd rather avoid that. - Tarkisflux Talk 07:21, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
